摘要:
This paper illustrates how electronic spreadsheet programs, such as Lotus 1‐2‐3 and Microsoft Excel, can be used for numerical analysis. It begins by considering the nature of spreadsheets with particular reference to their precision and accuracy. It continues with an extended example taken from matrix manipulation which uses both the Jacobi and Gauss‐Seidel iterative methods for solving sets of simultaneous equations. The spreadsheet approach allows users to compare the details of how the two methods work. The paper concludes with a restatement of the advantages of spreadsheets for numerical analysis.

摘要:
The use of spreadsheets in introducing students to the concept of a limit of a sequence is demonstrated and the possible computer‐based scenario as the enhancement of the teaching/learning process of calculus is exemplified. It is shown how the spreadsheet's operational capability assists visualizing the Bolzano‐Cauchy principle of convergence and leads eventually to the possibility of employing computer technology in deciding the convergence of positive series.

摘要:
This contribution to heuristic geometry proves the efficiency of the new generation of interactive tools for drawing in plane geometry in processes of theorem‐finding. The background of such processes should be seen in the general skills and abilities to be acquired by the pupils. The paper concludes with a discussion of the problem of securing knowledge with respect to the propositions gained by computer‐assisted conjecturing.

摘要:
A symmetrical trapezium is specified by the lengths of the base and the height and the angle of inclination of the non‐parallel sides to the base. The internal bisectors of the angles of the trapezium are used to define a kite and this first kite is used to define a second kite. The properties of these kites are developed for two distinct configurations. The trapezium is allowed to vary and the conditions for the kites to be enclosed by the trapezia are investigated using inequalities. Special limiting cases and an alternative specification are considered.
