摘要:
Man's natural history is his evolution in space and time. In the space-time relationship, space is represented by the natural environment to which the man-made cultural environment was implanted. Time acts as an agent which measures the length of man's exposure to the qualities of the environment and, in this sense, time is part of the circumstances in which the phenotype is created.Occupational Health is studying health problems of people who work in a specific microenvironment. From a medical point of view, emphasis in the contemporary industrial field is placed on the prevention and early detection of the worker's adverse state of health engendered by industrial hazards. However, it will be equally important in the future to predict any material impairment of health or of functional capacity. This would take into account the introduction of new technologies with their own stock of hazards (insufficiently controled even in industrialized countries), the development of new industrial areas, and the migrant workers (of different biological quality when compared to indigenous ones).

摘要:
The principles of occupational health may be the same in temperate countries and tropical ones. However, there can be wide divergences in the practice and problems of occupational health in those two regions. Heat stress, the greater importance of biological hazards, the differences due to genetic constitution and in levels of education and sophistication, and the preponderance of small-scale and traditional industries, are but some examples which contribute to such divergences. Many complex and new occupational health problems are occurring in tropical countries which are rapidly industrializing, without adequate safeguards for health or safety. It is therefore contended that the training of occupational health practitioners for the tropics should be modified accordingly and preferably conducted in-situ. The author discusses a newly-established course in his school planned to provide such training.

摘要:
Epidemiologic methods are necessary for better toxicological survey in occupational health, but that monitoring must be guided not to be too expensive. It is different according to acute, subacute or chronic contamination; pesticides are a good example.Acute intoxication is well known, owing to hospitals and poison control centers; problems arise from minor or atypic symptoms.Subacute contamination is controlled by staffs of occupational boards, with the help of biochemic parameters. The interest arises from the detection of usual symptoms as polynevritis or aplasia, according to the same pattern as monitoring the side effect of drugs with the W.H.O. Epidemiologic surveys begin to be done, from a symptom in général population correlated to the level blood of pesticides, or from a group of workers in whom symptoms are looked for.Chronic impregnation can be looked after by control of workers, search of literature to gather observations valuable in statistics, monitoring of blood levels. Detection of teralogenic or oncogenic potencies is the most difficult part.

摘要:
An attempt is made to ascertain the health patterns in a Bangladesh tea garden population by using three parameters derived from crude data, i.e., causes of loss of working time, causes of death and ages at death.Intestinal and respiratory infections account for half of the total loss of working time. Traditional tropical diseases contribute hardly at all. The principal cause of death is cardiovascular disease, though this contributes very little to loss of working time. Intestinal infections are a major cause of death: respiratory infections are not. There is a marked and interesting difference between the male and female age-ranges in which death occurs. It is clear that in health planning attention must be focused on intestinal and respiratory infections and attempts made to reduce the incidence by improved environmental hygiene.

摘要:
Occupational health is deeply rooted in Iran's medical past. The actual economic trends in Iran, e.g. steadily industrial and agricultural development of this country, leads to the assumption that occupational safety and health problems will require an organized, systematic approach.Iran's stringent problems at the present time are the high rate of work accidents; the necessity to identify and assess the hazardous work sites in the rich spectrum of industrial branches and agriculture of Iran; the elaboration and application at local level of suitable preventive programs in occupational safety and health. To meet these needs implies the preparation of a large body of trained personnel all over the country, under the supervision of a methodological forum which will elaborate, coordinate, implement and evaluate training programs as well as carry out applied research and provide technical advice and service on occupational safety and health problems.

摘要:
The problem was to determine the health and working conditions in Diamond Mines of Sierra Leone. To do so several visits were paid to mining sites, plants, various workshops and offices. A study of medical, reactional and housing facilities. Public health services, existing training and educational facilities. During these visits, observations were made of types of structure and construction, with system of ventilation, bath and toilet facilities, safety measures, and a statistical survey of the incidence of certain infective diseases among certain groups of workers.I discovered that: (1) The health of workers in diamond mines of Sierra Leone is satisfactory. (2) Working conditions are quite favorable and safety precautions in operation throughout the mines are constant and of a high standard. As a result, the annual accident rate is negligible. (3) Bilharziasis and microfilariasis of Onchocerca volvulus are infective diseases among certain groups of workers resulting from constant exposure during working hours to environments in which there are infective agents that transmit these diseases.
