摘要:
821 weavers working in three textile mills were examined in this survey. It was found that 8.5% of the workers were hypertensive and 12.4% borderline. All these rates are significantly different from those of the control groups. Also there is a clear increase in the prevalence of hypertensive and borderline cases in the weavers in relation to the length of employment. These findings emphasize the need for, at least annually, periodic examination of the entire work population in order to detect early such adverse health effects and to consider suitable medical care.

摘要:
Studies have been carried out to determine the possible physiological effects of contact with carbon black made by the thermal process. Contact was made by ingestion, skin application and/or inhalation. Ingestion and/or skin application do not appear to lead to any changes from the normal. Inhalation exposures do not produce pulmonary function changes (antemortem or postmortem studies) but may lead to moderate to severe “perifocal” emphysema in Rhesus monkeys (not observed in guinea pigs). Inhalation studies also suggest right ventricular septal and to a degree, left ventricular hypertrophy in Rhesus monkeys as an effect.Additional studies are necessary to support these findings and consideration must be given to the variability among exposed subjects as compared to controls.

摘要:
Previous studies have reported on employee populations exposed coincidentally to vinylidene chloride in copolymer processes using vinyl chloride. The current study examines the mortality and health examination findings of 138 employees exposed to measured levels of vinylidene chloride where vinyl chloride was not used as a copolymer. There were no findings statistically related or individually attributable to vinylidene chloride exposure in this cohort. In-depth medical surveillance will be continued on this employee population. It is recommended that additional epidemiological studies be undertaken to develop data on chronic exposure to vinylidene chloride.

摘要:
Smoking habits are examined in a probability sample of 75,827 American men and women. The data was obtained from The 1970 Household Interview Survey conducted by The National Center for Health Statistics. There are pronounced differences in prevalence intensity, kind, cessation of smoking related to type of employment. Occupations tend to be more of a factor in white males, where occupational choice is least encumbered, than in black males or in females. While blacks uniformly smoke with greater prevalence, they are much lighter smokers than whites. Employed women tend to smoke with prevalence approaching males for many occupations. Prevalence of smoking almost uniformly is highest among blue collar occupations and lowest among professionals, managers, and proprietors.
