摘要:
The problems associated with the quality control of gramophone records and the current methods of automatic detection of faults are reviewed. The need for a new fault detection strategy is shown and a method based on Syntactic String Analysis (SSA) for detecting impulsive noises embedded in music programme is discussed. An experimental equipment for detecting defects in gramophone records is described which utilizes SSA as the primary fault detection process, together with microcomputer based fault classification and assessment. Results from the equipment are presented and compared with those from the current quality control equipment.

摘要:
Results of experiments to investigate the effect of displaying high-definition source signals on conventional 625-line displays (down-conversion) and of displaying current standard signals on high-definition displays (up-conversion) are presented. Adaptive techniques were used to calculate the up-converted signal. A 625-line camera, modified to enable it to simulate a portion of a HDTV source was used to investigate the trade-offs involved with the choice of interlaced or sequential scanning, and the use of various field frequencies. The fundamental performance of any HDTV source was investigated using a set of high-speed field stores.

摘要:
The Japaneese Broadcasting Corporation's 1125-line HDTV system is described. Multiple sub-Nyquist sampling encoding is employed to achieve bandwidth compression of the time-division multiplexed signal used to convey luminance and colour information. Details are given of the system performance with particular reference to the effects of picture movement and resolution and noise.

摘要:
The purpose of this paper is to present to the reader who is unfamiliar with fuzzy set theory the basic concepts in a straightforward manner. Thus a tutorial approach is adopted in the explanation of these concepts. After describing fuzzy sets, it is shown how fuzzy logic can be used to develop a fuzzy control algorithm by means of the fuzzy conditional statement. In order to unify the ideas that are presented, a detailed description of the development of a fuzzy controller is discussed. Computer simulation results are shown of the fuzzy controller with heading error and yaw rate as input and rudder demand as output activating the non-linear yaw dynamics of a ship during course-changing manoeuvres. For the simulation ship study, the model was derived from full-scale sea trials on a Royal Navy frigate.
