AbstractThe effect of the halides (Cl−, Br−and I−) on the rates of the hydrogen evolution reaction (h. E. R.) and hydrogen penetration (h. P.) of iron in H2SO4is determined. The H. E. R. and H. P. of Fe in these same electrolytes with the addition of H2S are also studied. The inhibition of corrosion and h. p. in the H2S environment by hexynol are compared. With halide addition her., icorrand h. p. decreased in the following order, Cl−>Br−>I−. H2S catalyzed both the h. e. r. and h. p. The catalytic activity does not appear dependent on the H2S concentration for the H. E. R. but does for H. P. The fraction of hydrogen generated which is absorbed by Fe is greater during corrosion when a new surface is formed continuously than during cathodic polarization. 摘要:
AbstractZur experimentellen Klärung des Mechanismus der SpRK von AlZnMg‐Legierungen wurden Rohre unter Zugbeanspruchung gesetzt, die im Inneren mit Korrosionslösung gefüllt und zur örtlichen Erhöhung der Spannung außen mit Umlaufkerben versehen waren. Das Auftreten von SpRK‐Bruchflächen an der Außenseite kann nur mit Wasserstoffversprödung erklärt werden. Zugleich ergibt sich, daß die Gleichgewichtslöslichkeit der Korngrenzen für Wasserstoff von der Größe der wirksamen Normalzugspannungen abhängt. Die Korngrenzentrennfestigkeit wird infolge eindiffundierenden Wasserstoffs durch Dekohäsionswirkung herabgesetzt, so daß interkristalline Sprödbrüche im elastischen Spa

AbstractIn order to decrease the attack of chlorine in O2Cl2N2mixtures to NiCr alloys at high temperatures, the corrosion of a preoxidized Ni 20 Cr 4 Al alloy was investigated in N2O2mixtures with 5 to 150 torr O2and 20 torr Cl2at 800°. For the generation of a protective layer of Al2O3both the untreated and Al evaporated alloy sample was preoxidized in a H220 torr H2O atmosphere at 900° C. As was found, the catastrophic corrosion by Cl2in a N2Cl2gas mixture with 20 torr Cl2could not be prevented by an Al2O3layer. However, in the simultaneous presence of an oxygen content in the corroding gas mixture not lower than 10 torr, the attack of chlorine could be drastically decreased. The presence of 50 torr Cl2postulates an oxygen pressure which is technically unrealistic. Since the formed oxide layer spalled off during the cooling period, the Ni 20 Cr 4 Al alloy cannot be used as material for cyclic oxidation. AbstractThe corrosion fatigue behaviour of nitrogen implanted iron in neutral solutions has been investigated utilizing the oscillating cantilever beam method, by means of electrochemical (Ecorrvs. time plots, Rpmeasurements) and S. E. M. techniques.The calculated corrosion rate under stagnant conditions is lowered for the implanted iron at all nitrogen doses with respect to untreated iron. The surface oxide layers achieve enhanced protecting capacity.Consequently under a cyclic load of 25.4 kg mm−2, at a frequency of 16.6 Hz, cracks nucleation is delayed. The time to breaking of implanted specimens is considerably lower in our experimental conditions compared to untreated iron. The increase in the crack growth rate is consistent with the detrimental action of structural damage following implantation. The fracture morphology is also discusse
