AbstractDas Korrosionsverhalten von metallischen Werkstoffen in Wasser mit Schwefelwasserstoff und höheren Chloridkonzentrationen (130 g/l) ist abhängig von Zusammensetzung und Gefüge der Werkstoffe (Eisen und Nichteisenmetalle) und vom Gasgehalt (besonders Wasserstoff) des Mediums. Elektrochemische Messungen zeigen, daß mehrere Werkstoffe zwei Passivitätsbereiche aufweisen (−500 m V und −200 m V), wobei der letzte Potentialbereich für die Werkstoffe charakteristisch ist, die höhere Korrosionsbeständigke

AbstractThe nucleation of CaCO3scales on copper, graphite, aluminium and mild steel heat transfer surfaces at surface temperatures 54–56°C, from turbulent solutions (Re 22,000) of bulk temperature 30 °C, has been studied using thermal resistance and corrosion potential measurements and scanning electron microscopy. The rate of CaCO3scale nucleation and growth decreases in the order mild steel>aluminium>copper and graphite. Scale nucleation apparently proceeds from the very outset, throughout an apparent thermal induction period, the end of which appears to be associated with the development of nuclei into aragonite clusters. The differing scaling susceptibilities of the materials are directly related to their corrosion susceptibilities. Studies on aluminium highlight the importance of the nature and integrity of surface oxide films in determining scaling susceptibility. AbstractDer unstabilisierte, ferritische Chromstahl Werkstoff‐Nr. 1.4016 (X8Cr17) enthält nach Stabilglühen bei 750 °C noch so viel Kohlenstoff im α‐Mischkristall gelöst, daß dieser nach Glühen im Temperaturbereich um 500°C als chromreiches Karbid der Art M23C6ausgeschieden werden und eine, allerdings nur schwach ausgeprägte, Anfälligkeit für interkristalline Korrosion verursachen kann. Diese kann durch Prüfung im Strauß‐Test mit erhöhter Schwefelsäurekonzentration der Prüflösung und anschließende metallografische Untersuchung der Proben erkannt werden.Die bisher nicht bekannte Kornzerfallsanfälligkeit des untersuchten Werkstoffes nach Glühen bei tieferen Temperaturen wird durch ein Kornzerfalls‐Diagramm (Rollason‐Diagramm), wie es in gleicher Weise auch für austenitische Chrom‐Nickel‐Stähle üblicherweise verwendet wird, beschrieben.Die stabilisierten Werkstoffe Nr. 1.4510 (X8CrTi17), 1.4511 (X8CrNb 17) und 1.4523 (X8CrMoTi17) sind erwartungsgemäß nach Glühen im untersuchten Temperaturbereich geg

AbstractSamples of austenitic stainless steels from various sources have been thermally cycled. Many materials exhibited a volume expansion on cooling superimposed on the normal thermal contraction, as a result of an austenite → ferrite phase transformation. Samples of materials which exhibited the ferrite transformation also show a period of rapid oxidation on re‐exposure after cooling during the first autoclave shutdown of an oxidation test.
