AbstractEs wurden die Prepassiv‐ und Passivschichten des Eisens, hergestellt vorzugsweise in Borat‐ und Carbonat/Bicarbonatpuffer beim pH‐Wert 8,4 kathodisch und anodisch vom Flade‐Potential mit den Methoden XPS, AES und Reflexionspektroskopie untersucht. Aus den XPS‐Messungen ergab sich: Die Prepassivschicht ist dünner als die Passivschicht. Die Prepassiv‐ und die Passivschicht unterscheiden sich in der relativen Höhe der XPS‐Signale für Sauerstoff bei 530 und 531 eV, woraus auf einen vermehrten Anteil an OH‐Gruppen in der Deckschicht im Passivbereich geschlossen wird. Beim Sputtern nahmen die Unterschiede im XP‐Spektrum ab. Daraus folgt: Die hydroxidische Schicht ist an der Elektrolytseite lokalisiert. Die Passivschicht enthält im Falle des Boratpuffers Bor. Im Carbonat/Bicarbonatpuffer bildet sich keine Eisencarbonatschicht, sondern ebenfalls eine oxidisch/hydroxidische Schicht aus. AbstractThe passivity of nickel electrodes is investigated at high potentials in absence and presence of the inhibitor 2‐pentyl‐aminobenzimidazole (PAB). At high potentials, the electrode is covered by a thick film of NiOOH. Various states of the 3‐valent oxide film can be distinguished: Without inhibitor (3o), with an outer layer of inhibitor (3out), with an almost constant concentration profile in the total film (3tot) and a concentration gradient of inhibitor in the film caused by diffusion (3diff). Under steady state conditions, the films 3o, 3out and 3tot can be distinguished by the rate of anodic oxygen evolution, and the electrode capacity. Moreover, the reduction and reoxidation capacity of the electrode decreases from 3o to 3out and 3tot. If the film 3o is reduced and reoxidized in presence of PAB, the redox capacity decreases simultaneously with the electrode capacity due to the formation of 3diff. The role of the inhibitor is due to the formation of a thick polymer film on top of the oxide as well as to the formation of a nickel hydroxide/PAB complex. The outer polymer film has a good proton conductivity and presumably a good electron conductivity. It is concluded that the anodic oxygen evolution takes place at the inner boundary between the oxide and PAB film. The inhibition of local corrosion is probably due to formation of the outer polymer film. XPS measurements verify the expected concentration profiles of PAB in the oxide and on top of it. AbstractUnlegierte und niedriglegierte Stähle erleiden bei dynamisch‐plastischer Beanspruchung mit gleichzeitiger kathodischer H‐Entwicklung in beliebigen Elektrolytlösungen Innenrisse sowie relativ starke Versprödung beim Bruch. Diese Bedingungen sind in der Praxis bei kathodischer Polarisation und bei freier Korrosion in Säuren zu erwarten, wenn eine entsprechende mechanische Beanspruchung erfolgt, z.B. an Kerben. Für die innere Rißbildung gibt es zu positiveren Potentialen hin ein Grenzpotential, das für die untersuchten Werkstoffe unabhängig von der Streckgrenze (300 bis 500 N/mm2) ist und in sauerstoffreien Salzwässern bei UH= −0,5 V liegt. In sauerstoffhaltigen oder in alkalischen Wässern ist es negativer. Werkstoffe mit harten Gefügebestandteilen wie Bainit und Martensit zeigen eine erhöhte Anfälligkeit und Rißbildung in diesen harten Bestandteilen. Bei ansteigender Temperatur nimmt die Anfälligkeit nur wenig ab.Sehr hochfeste vergütete Werkstoffe mit Streckgrenzen über 1000 N/mm2erleiden auch bei statisch‐elastischer Beanspruchung H‐ind. Spannungsrißkorrosion. Das Grenzpotential ist sehr negativ und wird mit zunehmender Härte zu positiveren Werten verschoben. Stabilaustenitische nichtrostende Stähle sind gegen diese Korrosionsart beständig.
