Abstract.A fibrous tumor of infancy of the floor of the mouth is reported. The tumor was characterized by congenital occurrence, deeply infiltrating, dense immature fibroblastic cells, focal chondroid differentiation, rapid new growth 3 years following irradiation and no recurrence 6 years after incomplete excision. The diagnosis of an aggressive infantile fibromatosis or juvenile fibromatosis, differentiated fibrosarcoma type, was considered to be the most acceptable.

Abstract.In a sample of 450 patients with oral leukoplakias, 32 used snuff, which was a Danish wet variety, Göteborg snus ® (Gothenburg Snuff). The group of snuff users consisted of males only, with a mean age of 58.4 years. The mean life exposure time lo snuff was 197,000 hours, the equivalent of 22 years of constant use. Patients with leukoplakia due lo the use of snuff experienced fewer symptoms than did patients with leukoplakia due to other unknown causes. The snuff users also tended to be older at first examination, and to have a higher alcohol intake. Histological changes characteristic of snuff‐users' leukoplakias were: (1) vacuolated cells in the upper part of the spinous cell layers of the epithelium with intervening streaks of parakeratinized cells, (2) epithelial hyperplasia, and (3) hyalinized, eosinophilic deposits around salivary glands. Abstract.Clinical, gross and microscopic features of 54 mucoepidermoid tumors of intraoral minor salivary glands were studied. Thirty‐four were further analyzed with regard to treatment and survival. Females predominated 2:1. The most common locations were palate, mandibular retromolar area and buccal mucosa. Mean duration was approximately 1 year, and most were asymptomatic. Fifty tumors were well‐differentiated; four were poorly‐differentiated. Growth pattern was generally infiltrative. Treatment was surgical in all cases. Mean follow‐up duration was 47.1 months. Three well‐differentiated tumors recurred once. One poorly‐differentiated tumor recurred three times. No metastases or deaths occurred. Narrow or involved margins were common to recurrent but also to many non‐recurrent tumors. Well‐differentiated tumors behaved benignly and are best treated by modest local excision. Abstract.Fluids from 32 non‐keratinizing jaw cysts were examined by polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoresis, and by immunoelectrophoresis and double diffusion in agar against rabbit anti‐human serum and rabbit antisera monospecific for six different plasma proteins. Albumin, α1‐antitrypsin, α1‐acid glycoprotein (orosomucoid), transferrin, IgG, IgA, and IgM were invariably recognized. Most cyst fluids also reacted with antiserum to α1‐lipoprotein, α2‐macroglobulin, β1C/β1A‐globulin (C3/C3c), and fibrinogen. Cyst fluid “fibrinogen” which showed somewhat slower electrophoretic migration than plasma fibrinogen, appeared as two precipitin bands or as one line with an apparently split cathodic end. Two cyst fluids exhibited one additional “fibrinogen” line located in the α1‐globulin region. C3, which was not detected in all cyst fluids, displayed an electrophoretic mobility between that of β1C‐ and β1A‐globulin of serum. In two cases an even faster C3 subtraction appeared. Double diffusion gave a “reaction of identity” between albumin and the α‐ and β‐globulins of cyst fluid and autologous scrum. Cystic “fibrinogen” and fibrinogen of human plasma gave a “reaction of partial identity”. These findings indicate that albumin and the main α‐ and A‐globulins of fluid from non‐keratinizing jaw cysts are derived from plasma and that breakdown products of fibrinogen or fibrin are also present.
