摘要:
The addition of calcium glycerophosphate (CaGP) to commercial sodium monofluorophosphate (NaMFP) can increase significantly the capacity of NaMFP to protect hydroxyapatite discs and human enamel segments from subsequent acid attack. The improvement in activity which is equivalent to that achieved by a threefold increase in the NaMPF concentration occurs at molar ratios in the region of 10:1 (NaMFP:CaGP) although increasing the proportion of CaGP to give equal molar ratios actually impairs the NaMFP activity. At the optimum ratios, the benefit can be demonstrated in water or simulated saliva solutions. The combination can also be formulated successfully into a conventional toothpaste. The improvement is attributable to an increase in the uptake of fluoride in a form which is not alkali-soluble at the expense of the alkali-soluble fraction which will contain calcium fluoride.

摘要:
A supervised brushing study extending over a period of 31 months was carried out to evaluate the anticaries effectiveness of a monofluorophosphate dentifrice with a calcium carbonate abrasive system compared with a fluoride-free placebo dentifrice and a monofluorophosphate dentifrice with an insoluble sodium metophosphate abrasive. The study was of double-blind controlled design and included 712 8- to 12-year-old children living in 2 North Dakota cities, Bismarck and Fargo, the drinking water of which had been fluoridated to 1.2 ppm since 1955. A comparison between the 3 treatment groups demonstrated that the anticaries effect of the calcium carbonate-monofluorophosphate dentifrice was significantly greater than the other two dentifrices. Thus, an additional benefit was observed for the calcium carbonate based dentifrice over and above that assumed to have been due to water-borne fluoride.

摘要:
The outer layer of enamel of teeth obtained from diverse populations and geographic areas was removed by an acid etch technique and the dried residues analysed for microelement composition by spark source mass spectrometry. Of the 66 elements studied, 25 were identified in all samples and a further 12 were identified in some samples.
