AbstractThe impurity flux in the limiter shadow region of the T‐10 tokamak has been studied by exposing a solid probe to the plasma and subsequent investigation of deposits by surface analysis techniques.The main constitutents of the inner construction materials of T‐10 could be detected by AES and SIMS. The deposited amount of impurities has been shown to rise with a decrease of the distance between probe and plasma. Long term observations of the metal impurity composition in the limiter shadow region by means of the deposition probe have shown a gradual decrease of the relative Ni concentration, which is explained as a successive deposition of stainless steel limiter material on the Inconel liner. AbstractVarious methods for calculating electron‐ion recombination and ionization coefficients for argon (α andS) have been developed in the past. For given values of electron temperature and electron density, a large dispersion exists between the different results due to a great number of parameters. We have developed the method based on the collisional‐radiative model to calculate α andSfor limited conditions (atmospheric pressure; strong resonance radiation absorption) in order to obtain realistic values applicable in real cases such as arc plasmas. Influences of resonance radiation absorption and atom‐atom collisions have been studied. The collisional‐radiative recombination coefficient has been compared with results obtained by other calculation methods: the best agreement occurs with the “bottleneck” model for high values of electron density and temperature. Finally the comparison with available experimental results shows a good agreement between our computed values and experimental values when experimental and theoretical conditions

AbstractA review of the measurement of partial electron impact ionization cross sections for rare gas atoms and molecules is presented, with particular regard to the low electron energy regime (<200 eV). Recently developed experimental techniques are surveyed. Predictions of quantal and classical approximations as well as some empirical formulae are compared with the experimental data. In conclusion a set of recommended atomic ionization cross sections is given for electron energies ranging from threshold up to 14 keV. Finally, the existence and measured appearance potentials for the production of doubly ionized rare gas dimers are discussed.
