AbstractFür eine typische Impulslaser‐Gasentladung in ruhendem Stickstoff wird das zeitliche Verhalten der Schwingungstemperatur zwischen zwei Entladungsimpulsen rechnerisch untersucht, wobei eine verallgemeinerte Treanor‐Verteilung der Besetzung der Schwingungsniveaus zugrunde gelegt wird. Als Abbauprozesse der Schwingungsenergie werden Wandstöße, VV‐ und VT‐Prozesse berücksichtigt. Es ergeben sich Angaben über die Schwingungstemperatur zu Beginn jedes neuen Entladungsimpulses und über die Gastemperaturerhöhung gegenüber der Rohrwand in Abhängigkeit von der Folgefrequenz. AbstractBy Whitham's method of averaged Lagrangian and using Low's form of Lagrangian, coupled mode equations and coupling coefficients are derived for resonant nonlinear interaction of two longitudinal and one transverse wave in a magnetized plasma, in which the later wave propagates along the external uniform magnetic field. The limiting form of these coupling coefficients are obtained when the external magnetic field vanishes.

AbstractThe evolution of a resonant triplet of linearly stable electrostatic waves in a beam‐plasma system is considered. A set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is derived, which allow an investigation of the explosive instability with minimum numerical expense. Our model is different from the well known single wave model in taking into consideration the nonlinear susceptibility of the plasma and in making use of the ponderomotive force description. Maximum values of the wave amplitudes are obtained numerically and it is shown that the saturation of the explosive instability is due to different trapping mechanisms of the beam electrons by the excited wave

AbstractIn a dc argon discharge column of pressure 5 × 10−4torr, ion acoustic waves are studied experimentally. Plasma parameters obtained from the phase velocity of waves are compared with the Langmuir probe measurements. The wave diagnostic method yields the electron temperature lower than the probe method by a factor of 3…︁5, if the atomic argon ion is assumed as a dominant ion species. The axial profiles of ion drift velocity show the presence of ions flowing toward the anode along the potential drop in flont of it. AbstractIt is shown that the growth of a dense array of chromium microneedles is induced on a field cathode tip interacting with a negative corona discharge in ambient Cr(CO)6of 1 – 5 × 10−2Torr. The growth begins with the initiation of a corona discharge surrounding the tip, and it proceeds as long as the discharge is sustained. The needles emit field electrons during the growth, thereby sustaining the discharge, while the discharge lengthens the needles by supplying metallic particles to their tips. The morphological structure of the needles is strongly affected by an external magnetic field, leading us to hypothesize that the needle grow axially as the electron avalanches, originating at the cathode tip, propagate outward from

AbstractThe decomposition of carbon dioxide was studied in an argon plasma jet, generated by a direct‐current arc discharge. AbstractInvestigations are reported of growth rate, chemical structure (IR‐spectroscopy, mass‐spectrometry), thermal stability, surface structure (scanning electron microscopy) of thin polymeric films grown in a gas (Ar‐hexamethyldisiloxane‐mixture) discharge with a heated cathode, which is situated in the centre of a cylindrical metallic vessel (l= 50 cm, 2r= 30 cm).The discharge conditions are the following:I= 0,25 – 4 A,U= 30 – 100 V,p= 6 – 40 Pa, argon flow rate = 3,8 · 10−5mol/min, Ar/HMDS = 1 : 0,7 – 1 : 2,4.The growth rate changes from 2 to 18 nm/min, depending on the discharge conditions. The reproducibility of the growth rate shows deviations smaller than 10%. The films consist of a highly cross linked polymeric material and are stable up to 260°C, the solubility in n‐hexane being smaller than 2%. The surface of the thin film (d∼ 102nm) is smooth.
