AbstractWe have studied the effect of rotation on the development of Rayleigh‐Taylor instability of an incompressible, viscous, Hall, finitely conducting plasma of variable density. The solution is developed, through variational methods, for a semi‐infinite plasma in which the density varies exponentially along the vertical. It is found that the system is unstable for all wave numbers when the effects of magnetic resistivity are included. The effects of coriolis forces and viscosity on the growth rate of the unstable system are found to be stabilizing while that of Hall currents is destabilizing. Finite conductivity affects the growth rate of the unstable mode differently for the smaller and larger values of the wave numbers, destabilizing for the waves of large wave length and stabilizing for waves of small wave len

摘要:
AbstractThe stability of the electromagnetic plasma confinement by powerful externals‐polarized pump waves is considered. The parametric excitation of standing electromagnetic waves along the plasma boundary with frequencies close to the frequency of the pump wave leads to a periodic density modulation of the plasma boundary. The density disturbances along the direction of the external wave field are connected to the excitation of transversep‐polarized surface waves while the modulation in the direction perpendicular to the pump field are created by the parametric interaction between the external wave ands‐polarized trapped leaking oscillations. 摘要:
AbstractAn instability of a magnetized plasma column in the frequency range has been identified as an ion acoustic one. The waves are azimuthally driven by the electron diamagnetic velocity due to the radial gradient of a fast electron tail. The strongest peaks in the frequency spectrum correspond tom= 6 or 8 wave lengths on one turn. This selection can be explained as an optimum value between increasing growth rate and the resonance disturbing phase mismatch at higher mode numbers.
