摘要:
A diverse assemblage of trace fossils has been collected from Lower Eocene to Upper Miocene strata during regional geological mapping of 75,000 km2of the Makran Range of southeastern Iran. Almost all are excellently preserved and this allows detailed descriptions, which in some cases can be used as a basis for taxonomic revisions of much used but inadequately analysed ichnogenera.

摘要:
A new ichnotaxon is recognized in the Hidden Lake Formation, Upper Cretaceous of James Ross Island, Antarctica.Fuersichnus striatusconsists of horizontal to subhorizontal, isolated or loosely clustered, U‐shaped, curved to banana‐like burrows, characterized by distinctive striations parallel to the trace axis. It is interpreted as a dwelling structure probably produced by crustaceans or polychaetes. This recording ofFuersichnusextends its stratigraphic range from the Triassic‐Jurassic to the Cretaceous and its environmental setting from nonmarine to marine environments.F. striatustypified consolidated, but unlithified substrates. Accordingly, it must be considered a member of theGlossifungitesichnofacies.

摘要:
A new ichnogenus,Vagorichnus, is figured and described from Jurassic lacustrine turbidites of the Anyao Formation, Henan Province, Central China.Vagorichnusconsists of complex burrow systems composed of discontinuous curved to meandering segments in which irregular networks are formed. The ichnospeciesV. anyaocovers burrow systems characterized by constricted and irregularly annulated segments, and ridge‐like knobs. Although traces are preserved as hypichnial ridges on the sole of turbidite sandstones, several lines of evidence indicate that these ichnofossils record the activity of a post‐event infauna.Vagorichnusoccurs as discrete and compound ichnotaxa. In the latter case, it grades intoGordiaandTuberculichnus. Vagorichnusis interpreted as invertebrate feeding structures (Fodinichnia).

摘要:
The newly established ichnofossilAmanitichnus Omittusichnogen. et ichnosp. nov. represents a complex burrow system consisting of upward convex conical structures with radiate sculpture, recurring in different stratification levels and connected by a subvertical shaft. The system is interpreted as an intrastratal fodinichnion with some resemblance to epistratalOldhamiaandGlockerichnus. The ichnofossil occurs in the silty Skryje Shale of Middle Cambrian age and is accompanied by common benthic body fossils and by ichnofossils of theCruzianaichnofacies.

摘要:
Ichnofossils of flank‐buttressed trees are reported from upper Eocene coastal deposits in the Fayum Depression of northern Egypt. These ichnofossils represent the only known direct ichnofossil evidence for flank‐buttressing of trees. In living trees flank‐buttresses compensate for poor attachment to the soil surface caused by high water tables, poorly cohesive substrates or shallow soil profiles. Flank‐buttressing is confined to trees living in subtropical and tropical climates. The fossil flank buttresses support the idea that the Fayum area had a tropical climate and high water tables with low oxygen contents in the late Eocene, although it is unclear whether the fossils represent terra‐firma or mangrove forests.

摘要:
Four new ichnogenera and six new ichnospecies are described from permineralized plant remains from an unnamed Upper Cretaceous formation, of northern Patagonia in Argentina. This association of traces is the second ichnocenosis described for permineralized wood. Traces are interpreted as insect borings in wood and fruits.Cycalichnus garciorumn. ichnosp. is the first trace fossil recorded in a cycad stem and the oldest known evidence of a termite nest for the southern hemisphere.Stipitichnus koppaen. ichnosp. is the first trace fossil recorded in a palm stem.Xylonichnus trypetusn. ichnosp. is interpreted as borings of beetles in conifer wood.Carporichnus maximusn. ichnosp.,C. bertheorumn. ichnosp., andC. minimusn. ichnosp. represent the first ichnocenosis related with a single species of fruit, and the only known Mesozoic borings in fruits. An historical overview of insect traces in permineralized wood shows that most were described ignoring the ichnological aspects, and this resulted in the absence of a taxonomic classification. In this paper, the main ichnotaxobases to describe insect traces in petrified wood are proposed for the first time.

摘要:
Planolites, although strictly a junior synonym ofPalaeophycus, can be retained as a valid ichnotaxon on the basis of stability of nomenclature. As emended by Pemberton and Frey (1982) and consistently adopted by later authors,Planolitesis diagnosed primarily on the basis that it is an unlined simple burrow, whereasPalaeophycusis a lined burrow. Other ichnotaxobases and ethological considerations are, without exception, subordinate to this directive.
