摘要:
The well known method of realising a prescribed short-circuit transfer admittance function or open-circuit transfer impedance function (having real- or imaginary-frequency poles with unspecified associated driving-point immittances) as a compact symmetrical lattice is applied to a nonreciprocal form with the advantage of avoiding the lattice-to-ladder conversion problem. An example is given of an open-circuit transfer impedance function having real-frequency poles, requiringLCelements, which (if ideal transformers are ruled out) needs a smaller total amount ofLorCthan its reciprocal equivalent. In theRCcase, Ozaki presented a method of realising a compact symmetrical network in the form of two parallel passiveRCnetworks without the need for the intermediate lattice form. Accordingly, comparison is made between the nonreciprocal and Ozaki's method; two examples are given—one minimum-phase, the other non-minimum-phase—for both of which the nonreciprocal method is found to require substantially fewer passive components.

摘要:
The principles of parametric amplification are discussed. Amplifiers are distinguished from one another in terms of the allowed frequencies and of basic circuit connections. The small-signal and noise properties of varactor diodes are outlined and their effect on amplifier performance is demonstrated. The performance of practical amplifiers, including cooled amplifiers, is compared with that of other types of microwave amplifier.

摘要:
Tables of element values are developed for capacitively coupled double-tuned interstage networks with finite source and load resistances and equiripple insertion-loss characteristics corresponding to minimum passband return losses of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30dB. In each case the lower edge of the passband is varied from 0.1 to 0.95 by increments of 0.05 with the upper edge normalised to unity. The insertion-loss method of design is used for evaluating the network elements.

摘要:
A simplified theory is presented for the derivation of optimum matching networks for a restricted class ofRCLloads. It is applied also to the case of matching from a specified source network to a specified load network, and to optimum networks for transference of power from an infinite-impedance source to a given load network, which are particularly useful for interstage-network design. The applications of frequency and impedance transformations are fully described. The procedures are illustrated by numerical examples.

摘要:
The concept of terminal impedance and admittance matrixes can be generalised to cover continuous media. The matrixes take the form of kernels of singular integral equations. Some properties and applications are considered, one of which establishes a rigorous connection between continuum and resistance-network calculations.

摘要:
The paper describes the principle of operation of an arrangement of conductors that is closely coupled to a magnetic film and can act as a signal invertor, modulator or isolator. The transmission characteristic is determined by the currents flowing in control conductors, which alter the film permeability. The net coupling between sections of the input and output conductors can be either positive, negative or zero, depending on the film permeability. The characteristics of the device in practice make it suitable for use as an integral part of film logic circuits.

摘要:
The paper presents an analysis of the frame-grid tension-distribution problem, in which the frame loading is treated as continuously distributed; use is made of the similarity between wire-tension loss due to support-rod deflection and the well known structural behaviour of the elastically supported beam. This yields solutions which, though involving numerical or graphical integration, are by no means impracticably lengthy for hand computation as compared with a recent discrete-loading treatment of the problem, which leads to results requiring digital-computing facilities for evaluation. The wire-tension distribution for a practical grid design has been calculated by this method and shown to be in good agreement with the observed distribution.

摘要:
The paper deals with the application of electromagnetic theory to electrical machines. A digest of the existing information, hitherto published piecemeal, is presented in a unified form by classifying diverse methods of analysis. Also a method, not available in the literature surveyed, is given to account for the presence of space harmonics. It is indicated how the field equations can be applied to single-phase machines. Inductance formulas are derived from the field equations, and their experimental verification is included. Unpublished work is given in detail, and published material is summarised. An attempt is made to include a complete bibliography on the subject.

摘要:
The paper describes a matrix method by which relatively simple expressions may be obtained for calculation of transient-voltage distribution in a system consisting of a transmission line and a transformer winding in series arrangement, subjected to a voltage surge given by an arbitrary function of time. The theory is derived for an equivalent circuit built up of two different uniform ladder networks, each having a finite number of sections. The ladder networks chosen are those usually employed to represent transmission lines and transformers. The differential equations for the transient voltages are compounded into a single matrix equation, the solution of which is obtained using the Laplace transform and the matrix-inversion technique of Shermann-Morrison and Bartlett.

摘要:
The paper gives two digital-computer methods for the determination of power flow in an a.c.-d.c. interconnected power system. For each of the two methods of computation, three examples are used, in which the waveform of the convertor terminal voltage is assumed to be, respectively, purely sinusoidal, approximately sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal. In the view of the authors the methods advanced, which are applicable to any large, fast digital computer, are an advance in accuracy on the equivalent-network concepts developed to use an a.c.-network analyser for the representation of a d.c. system. The two methods are based on the representation of the d.c. system by an equivalent direct voltage and an equivalent direct current, respectively.Calculated results of power flow in an a.c.-d.c. interconnected system, obtained from the computer used, are given.
