AbstractFor several years TVA has studied pan‐granulation processes for producing granular fertilizers. Tests were made with pans ranging from 38 inches to 14 feet in diameter. Most of the work was on granulation of ammonium nitrate, urea, and N‐P and N‐P‐K fertilizers containing one of these materials. In this work the pan granulator was effective and efficient because of its good classification action. However, the pan was not suitable when ammoniation during granulation was desired. In most of the test work, ammoniation of the feed acids was completed in a solution system where considerable water was removed by the heat of reaction.
