AbstractUne étude cinétique de la dévolatilisation d'échantillons représentatifs de coke de pétrole est menée sous des conditions proches de celles existant dans les fours industriels de calcination. On analyse les effets de la nature du milieu (neutre ou oxydant), du taux de chauffage et du pourcentage d'oxygène en milieu oxydant. Les expériences sont réalisées dans un four à induction et mettent en oeuvre des analyses thermogravimétriques et chromatographiques. Les résultats montrent que, sous certaines conditions, la nature du milieu influence le processus de dévolatilisation. En atmosphère oxydante, un taux de chauffage faible et un contenu faible en matières volatiles favorisent une attaque du coke par l'oxygène. Les comportements réactionnels sont établis en suivant les concentrations de CH4, H2, CO et CO2. Dans les régions où le coke n'est pas attaqué, un modèle cinétique permet de comparer les paramètres (ordre de réaction, énergie d'activation et facteur pré‐exponentiel) caractérisant le phénomène de dévolatilisation dans les deux milieux (neutre et oxydant). AbstractTo prove the applicability of zeolite crystals as a catalyst in dustproof low pressure drop reactors, a novel structured catalyst packing has been developed consisting of ZSM‐5 crystalsin situgrown on metal wire gauze. Using this technique, mechanically strong catalyst packings of any required shape can be produced that give an extremely low pressure drop across the packing and that trap almost no dust particles. These features make the packing especially suitable for end‐of‐pipe processes, such as the catalytic removal of NOx from large flows of dust containing flue gas. To demonstrate the feasibility of the packing as a catalyst, it was tested — after incorporation copper into the zeolites by ion exchange — on its activity for Selective Catalytic Reduction of nitric oxide with ammonia at 350°C. AbstractVariousMortierella alpinafungi were screened for their capacities to produce arachidonic acid. A strain ofM. alpinawas found to show the highest productivity. Arachidonic acid content of biomass and overall yield per litre of culture was highest in soya flour supplemented medium which produced dispersed mycelium. When the glucose concentration in the medium was varied from 30 to 100 g/L, biomass, lipid, arachidonic acid content of biomass and arachidonic acid yield increased with increasing glucose concentration. Several natural oils, when added to the growth medium, stimulated arachidonic acid production. After fermentation in a 20‐L fermenter under optimal culture conditions, the arachidonic acid yield was 5.3 g/L, representing 34.2% w/w of total fatty acids and 13.7% w/w of biomass.
