AbstractPellets of FeCl2were suspended from a thermogravimetric balance and reduced by hydrogen. Fine thermocouples were embedded in the particles and recorded the reaction temperature.In the abserrce of diffusion control through the boundary layer (H2HCI), the reduction was controlled by chemical reaction at the interface between the reduced and unreduced layers. The rate of advance of the interface towards the centre of the particle was constant with time and independent of the thickness of the reduced layer. 摘要:
AbstractThe air oxidation of isobutene was investigated over supported and unsupported copper oxide catalysts in an isothermal integral flow reactor. The effect of various variables, that is, ratio of oxygen to isobutene in the feed, process temperature, copper concentration on the catalyst and reciprocal of space velocity on the conversion and yield were determined.Though several mechanisms were postulated, the rate of reaction was most satisfactorily correlated by a mechanism which assumes the rate controlling step as the surface reaction between strongly adsorbed isobutene and gaseous (weakly adsorbed) oxygen. A rate equation has been derived and the kinetic rate constant and adsorption constants for isobutene and methacrolein are reported as functions of temperature.

AbstractA modified single‐pulse shock tube has been used to study the pyrolysis of methane in the presence of nitrogen. The reactants are rapidly heated by a reflected shock wave for about a millisecond and cooled by rarefaction waves. AbstractAvailable experimental values of the self‐diffusivity at moderate pressures for 14 substances were used to establish a relationship between (ρD)* ξ and TR, where ξ = Tc1/6M1/2Pc2/3. The resulting relationship was found to reproduce 62 experimental points with an average deviation of 3.9%. For dense gases, the product of the self‐diffusion and binary diffusion coefficients with density was found to be independent of density up to ρR= 1.00. Therefore, values of the self‐diffusivity for dense gases can be calculated from the relationship between (ρD)*ξ and TR. AbstractSodium extended in the form of alloys with inert metals indicates marked acid neutralizing properties for hydrocarbon lubricating oil when the systems contain at least 20 atom percent sodium. Transparency of the treated oil correlated well with pH measurements.

AbstractPotassium sulphate has been produced by a batch process from a mixture of sodium and magnesium sulphates, and potassium chloride. AbstractIn the present paper, the flow behavior of single capsules of regular shape transported by two mineral oils of kinematic viscosities 45 and 7 centistokes respectively, in a 1 1/4‐inch diameter pipeline, are reported.
