摘要:
AbstractA mathematical model was derived for the calculation of the film thickness, total holdup and overall residence time of a thin liquid film flowing inside a rotating cylindrical tube, as a function of the liquid throughput and physical properties and of the tube diameter, length, rotational speed and angle of inclination.The experimental data with short tubes showed good agreement with the model for average film thickness above a certain critical value (which may indicate a change in the flow regime).

摘要:
AbstractGrid leakage data for single and multiorifice grids of various designs are given. The effect of the wind box volume on grid leakage has been investigated. A grid having long cylindrical nozzles can reduce solids leakage, but there is a critical nozzle length, for a given grid hole velocity, above which instabilities can occur. A method for computing this critical length is given. Implications for the design of commercial grids are discussed.

AbstractThe hydrodynamics of two (water‐air, water‐solids) and three (water‐air‐solids) phase fluidized beds have been studied in a large two‐dimensional column. Two solids were used, namely 6 mm glass beads and 2.6 mm irregular gravel.The individual phase holds‐ups, bed expansion, and axial mixing characteristics were measured. The data were correlated empirically by equations involving liquid and gas phase Reynolds and Froude numbers, and the ratios of the particle and fluid densities. AbstractA dilatometric method was combined with a ciné photographic technique to obtain average heat transfer coefficients for the evaporation of droplets of isopentane and cyclopentane in a continuous phase of 0.0%, 56.02%, 73.07% and 77.06% glycerine‐water solutions. AbstractAn experimental study, based on streak photograph determination of instantaneous velocities, was directed at determining the turbulent flow velocity profiles of polymer solutions in circular pipes. The measurements resolve several discrepancies in interpretation of earlier velocity profile measurements in drag reducing systems. In particular, it is shown for dilute drag reducers that the semilogarithmic profile due to Prandtl with the same slope as for Newtonian fluids is quantitatively correct provided Bogueés empirical correction function is applied to the data. For a relatively concentrated solution, data serve to extent on earlier study which has shown the flow to be transitional at surprisingly high values of Reynolds number

AbstractThis paper analyses the problem of mass transfer from a spherical bubble (Re<<1) in the presence of an (m, n)th order liquid phase reaction. The approximate analytical results for enhancement factor obtained, using a linearization technique of the rate expression which is an extension of the one proposed by Hikita and Asai, are found to agree well with the one obtained from a numerical solution of the problem.The paper also presents numerical calculations of the rise in bubble interface temperature applying Danckwerts method to both the rigorous model as well as the extended penetration model of Ruckenstein et al. for the reaction process.

摘要:
AbstractAn experimental study of the reactions of ethylene, chlorine, and water in a bubble column reactor, on a laboratory scale, has been carried out. The effect of gas flow rates on the yield of the products in an unbaffled reactor is reported. Baffles were introduced into the column to reduce axial mixing. A significant improvement in the conversion and yield of ethylene to ethylene chlorohydrin was observed.

摘要:
AbstractA fluorescent material which does not disturb the physical properties of the contacting fluids while allowing a continuous analysis of the concentration, has been used to study the mixing of two miscible liquids in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The experimental results for three types of forcing functions, analysed by the frequency response method and Bode diagrams, show that a general first order transfer function describes the behavior of a CSTR when there is no density difference between fluids.
