摘要:
AbstractA necessary and sufficient condition for stability of the empty adiabatic tubular reactor with axial mixing is derived which depends upon steady state information alone. The stability conditions require the solution of a linear ordinary differential equation and the character of this solution determines the stability or instability of the system without the use of transient calculation. The lumped constant reactor is always stable. The method of computation requires a minimum amount of memory capacity in a digital computer and could be carried out on an analogue computer with ease.

AbstractUsing the concepts of dilatant suspension behavior introduced by Bagnold, an equation has been derived for the hydraulic gradient necessary to transport solids in a two‐dimensional channel where suspension arises from the Bagnold dispersive stress.The equation has been tested for the case where a stationary bed of solids exists and the empirical constant in the equation is found to agree with that obtained by Bagnold for shear in an annulus.The equation bears a strong resemblance to that verified experimentally for circular pipes by Abbot

AbstractThis paper reports the dynamic behavior of a particular continuous stirred‐tank reactor system, which has been investigated in detail both experimentally and on an analog computer. The two sets of data were taken under comparable conditions to facilitate comparison. AbstractThe gas hydrate equilibrium curves for systems containing methane and nitrogen have been obtained in the temperature interval 32°F. to 72°F. and between pressures of 350 and 5100 Ib./sq.in.abs. The composition of the equilibrium gas and hydrate phases was determined experimentally at 32°F. and 44°F. AbstractA semi‐empirical method is proposed for the prediction of adsorption equilibria of binary gas mixtures from pure component isotherms, including and extending beyond the range of validity of previous methods. AbstractThe pressure drop of aqueous model nylon fibre suspensions was determined in a vertical 2‐in. copper tube in the turbulent range as a function of velocity, fibre length‐to‐diameter ratio (L/D) and concentration. Fibre diameters ranged from 20.2 to 51.6 microns and length from 0.52 to 1.21 mm. A marked depression below the value for the pressure drop of water was observed at high L/D's and its magnitude increased with the solids concentration.
