摘要:
IntroductionThis report covers important developments in the chemistry of the Group 15 elements that were published during 2001. The limitations on space prevent any attempt to make the report comprehensive, and as before the emphasis has been placed on molecular species. Although nitrogen and phosphorus compounds continue to be used extensively as ligands, only transformations of the ligands themselves are included here. The summaries of each piece of work cited are intentionally concise in order to maximise the range of chemistry described.

摘要:
Boron highlightsDuring 2007 the chemistry of boryl and borylene complexes has continued to expand and remarkable progress has been made. Special mention should be made of the work of Robinsonet al.in the development and synthesis of Lewis base stabilised B–B and BB systems. Advances in the chemistry of B–N cyclic compounds have also been noteworthy over 2007 and the work of Normanet al.and Himmelet al.take centre stage in this. The standard and quality of work that exists in the boron community continues to be exceptional and long may it con

摘要:
The year 2002 witnessed a wide range of interesting developments in Group 15 chemistry, with highlights including the first experimental observation of tetranitrogen, N4,1and the synthesis of the first non-carbon-containing metallocene, [Ti(η5-P5)2]2−(vide infra).2Nitrogen and phosphorus compounds continue to be used extensively as ligands, with the development of asymmetric phosphine-based catalysts described in the Nobel Lectures of Knowles3and Noyori.4However, due to space limitations, the use of Group 15 based ligands is beyond the scope of this report, and only transformations of the ligands themselves are included. The summaries of each piece of work cited are as concise as possible in order to maximise the range of chemistry described.

HighlightsHighlights of triel chemistry published last year include the rather varied structures and coordination modes adopted by {Cp*} rings in complexes originating from [Cp*M] (M = Ga, In) acting as ligands to Rh(iii) or Ru(ii).1,2Certainly among the most beautiful structures are those originating from combinations of {Tl(i)} and {Au(C6X5)2} moieties.3–5

摘要:
HighlightsThe year 2006 was an excellent year for the Group 14 chemist. The area of heavy M(14)–M(14) multiple bonding has been the subject of many stimulating reports and some debate, which has given colour and lent a clearer understanding to the topic. More examples of transition metal ions encapsulated in M(14) cages have been prepared and surely we will see many more of these intriguing compounds in the coming years. In addition to these, areas as diverse as low-coordination number neutral and cationic M(ii) and M(iv) species, polydiorganosilanes and lead(ii) chalcogenide quantum dots have all seen important advances this year. Group 14 chemistry remains an active and vital area with many and varied facets, with much to recommend it to the synthetic chemist, the theoretician and the structural chemist.

摘要:
1IntroductionThis chapter reviews original highlights in the chemistry of the Group 16 elements reported during 2001. Due to the vast abundance and diversity of research into chalcogen chemistry, the report has been limited to materials with discrete molecular structure, either as novel products or reagents, or obtained by new synthetic strategies. The bulk of the review focuses on the chemistry/interaction of the chalcogens with other p-block elements.

摘要:
1IntroductionThis review highlights new developments in the chemistry of the Group 16elements (thechalcogens) reported during 2000. As in previousyears, results that demonstrate novelty of product or synthetic approach astheir main feature have been emphasized. In addition, the products reportedare limited to those in possession of a discrete molecular structure, thushighlighting the extraordinary ability of these elements (sulfur, seleniumand tellurium in particular) to contribute to novel clusterarrangements.

摘要:
HighlightsThe calendar year 2007 has been an excellent year for Group 14 chemistry. Silicon- and lead-centered radicals have featured heavily this year, as have the materials aspects of silica, silsesquioxanes and silicon and germanium nanowires. The controversy over the nature of bonding in M(14)–M(14) dimers rages on, a fantastic arena wherein we can continue to investigate just what higher order bonding means. Explosive molecules tetraazido methane and tetrakis(azidomethyl) silane have been prepared and characterised in a feat of chemical derring-do and the activation of carbon dioxide remains a hot target. Germanium, tin and lead clusters have also featured heavily this year, with an array of Zintl ions, endohedral clusters and mixed-metal assemblies reported. The theoreticians continue to challenge the synthetic chemist to prepare the exotic and hitherto unknown species which they predict might be liable to synthesis. This year, each member of the group has been shown to have something new to offer and the prospect remains very bright indeed for the Group 14 devote

摘要:
HighlightsThe highlights in the chemistry of the triels (Al–Tl) include the work of Shnöckel’s group in the synthesis of Al(i) complexes featuring high thermal stability and that of a Ga cluster with a ‘naked’ Ga12core. The two-coordinate Al, Ga and In complexes prepared by Sekiguchi’s group and the chemistry of Al(ii), Ga(i) and In(ii) reported by different authors are notable. A gamut of metallocenophanes and an unprecedented zwitterionic species are also notable achievements.

摘要:
HighlightsOnce again there has been considerable development in the chemistry of the Group 15 elements, particularly in the areas of nitrogen fixation, the development of phopshorus-containing rings and clusters, the isolation of the first cyaphide (CP) complex and the development of hafnium-mediated reactions of low-valent antimony.
