摘要:
The passage of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) and trimethoprim (TMP) into the human bile was examined in 10 female patients, who were carriers of a T drain introduced 2–12 days before on the occasion of cholecystectomy. Four of the subjects received a single oral dose of 800 mg SMZ + 160 mg TMP in the form of 2 tablets of Bactrim Roche, three ingested 3 and the remaining three 10 such doses at 12-hour intervals. The concentrations of the drugs in samples of plasma and bile collected at corresponding graded times after medication were then determined. The pharmacokinetic characteristics of the resulting plasma levels lie with few deviations in the normal ranges observed in healthy adults. The content of active SMZ and TMP in the bile is of an order providing very favourable conditions for a curative effect of the combination in cases of biliary infections caused by bacteria sensitive to the two drug

摘要:
The concentration related interaction of rifampicin, in associations with isoniazid, ethambutol, streptomycin and p-aminosalicylic acid on M. tuberculosis (H37Rv) in vitro has been statistically evaluated. The independency or dependency of drugs has been assessed either on the basis of their concentrations or their proportions in associations studied. The effect of drug-resistant mutants has been excluded. The data indicate that rifampicin and ethambutol act dependently in a wide range of concentrations and proportions, both drugs participate equally on the increased effectivity of a given association. In associations of rifampicin with other drugs the dependent (increased) interaction is limited to some concentrations, particularly of rifampicin.

A total of 109 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus as well as 2 isolates of S.epidermidis, 11 isolates of group A β-hemolytic streptococci, 32 isolates of enterococci and 1 strain of α-hemolytic streptococcus were tested for susceptibility to fucidin (the sodium salt of fusidic acid) by the standardized Bauer-Kirby disk diffusion technique and a microtiter broth dilution method. The data obtained led to the following proposed criteria for the interpretation of inhibition zones around 10-μg fucidin disks: staphylococcal isolates that yield zones of inhibition equal to or greater than 20 mm in diameter are designated as sensitive to the drug: those isolates that are characterized by zones of 19 mm or less in diameter are interpreted as resistant to the drug. The sensitivity to sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), trimethoprim (TMP) and TMP/SMZ of urinary tract pathogens from hospital patients was studied during a period of 2 years in which the use of TMP/SMZ gradually increased, mainly replacing the use of sulfonamides alone. No significant trend could be observed towards a higher frequency of resistance to SMZ, TMP or TMP/SMZ. On the contrary, the frequency of fully SMZ-sensitive strains of E. coli, Klebsiella and Staph. aureus increased significantly, and the frequency of SMZ-resistant strains of Klebsiella decreased significantly. Variations in the frequency of synergy between TMP and SMZ are mentioned.

摘要:
Cyclacillin and ampicillin have been used in 18 and 23 patients, respectively, presenting urinary tract infections caused by gram-negative rods. All these patients were hospitalized and had a serious underlying disease. Cyclacillin and ampicillin have been administered on a double-blind random basis and were found about equally effective under these circumstances. Bacteriological cure was achieved in 61.1% of the patients who received cyclacillin and in 73.9% of those who received ampicillin.

130 patients with dysenteric syndrome were treated with Poteseptyl (trimethoprim + Superseptyl), among the 70 (54%) Shigella-positive patients. 70% of the infections were caused by Shigella flexneri strains, 21% by Shigella sonnei, and 9% by Shigella schmitzi. All Shigella strains were found to be sensitive to trimethoprim + sulfonamide. Clinical course was found moderately severe in 52%, mild in 30% and severe in 18%. Severe cases occurred most frequently (in 60%) among the patients with Shigella sonnei infections. A dose of 2 × 2 tablets of Poteseptyl was given for 3 days. The Poteseptyl treatment was clinically successful in 100% and bacteriologically in 98.6%. In cases with bacteriological relapse, the resistance of Shigella strains to Poteseptyl did not increase. On the evidence of our observations, the Poteseptyl (trimethoprim + Superseptyl) treatment of Shigella infections is undoubtedly advisable

28 patients affected by chronic, multiresistant forms of pulmonary tuberculosis, with extensive lesions necessitating surgical intervention, were divided into two groups. The study group of 20 patient, was treated daily for 2 months prior to the intervention and for an identical period after intervention with the following combination: rifampicin 450 mg; viomycin 1 g, and cycloserine 750 mg. The control group of 8 patients was treated for the same periods with viomycin and cycloserine only. 12 patients of the study group showed sputum conversion before the surgical intervention while none of the control patients did so. The cultural examinations of the excised tissues confirmed the findings obtained during the preoperative treatment in the study group, since the tissue cultures were negative in 12 and the bacterioscopic finding negative in 8 out of 20 patients. In the control group the culture of excised tissues consistently proved the presence of mycobacteria in all cases. None of the study group patients had any infective postoperative complication.
