摘要:
Abstract:The Norplant System of subdermally- lmplanted levonorgestrel containing capsules Is the most effective reversible contraceptive option available to women today. Patients' acceptance of the System Is high and crosses cultural, social, and economic boundaries. As more women become aware of the Norplant System it is Increasingly important for all primary health care providers to be knowledgeable and proficient in the procedures for insertion and removal. Both procedures are short, in-office procedures that are straightforward and easy to master. This article examines the Norplant System, with emphasis on the removal procedure, and offers tips and techniques for nurse practitioners planning to add Norplant-related skills to their repertoire. Topics covered include a brief review of the history and methods of action of Norplant, the importance of patient counseling, the insertion procedure, the removal procedure, and tips for handling nonstandard removal situations.

摘要:
Abstract:Gerontological literature in general, and gerontological nursing literature specifically, does not clearly differentiate two important therapeutic interventions for older people: reminiscence and life review. However, practitioners often implement both interventions in a variety of settings. Because of the confusion regarding the interventions, this paper explains the differences between reminiscence and life review, and offers protocols to improve the effectiveness of both interventions. The three protocols include one-to-one reminiscence therapy, group reminiscence, and one-to-one life review.

摘要:
Abstract:Directors of 112 ambulatory care nurse practitioner (NP) programs were surveyed to determine the amount and characteristics of the clinical education of their students. The response rate was 53%. Among all programs, students experienced an average of 597 clinical hours. This number was somewhat higher among family and women's health nurse practitioner programs. The range was large—192 to 1600 hours—however, eliminating both extremes left a majority of programs within a much narrower range; the central 62% of programs were between 400 and 700 hours. Certificate programs reported more hours than did masters programs. Almost all hours were in ambulatory settings, which included a wide mixture of public and private settings. A majority of students experience part of their clinical training along with medical residents and medical students, and often with NP students from other programs and with physician assistant students. Most NP program directors find these other disciplines' programs cooperative, and the NP directors favor stronger relationships

摘要:
Abstract:The potential for relapse is a continuous threat for recovering alcoholics, most of whom will relapse within the first few years following treatment. Although relapse prevention is a challenge to nurse practitioners and clinical specialists, having an understanding of the factors leading to relapse can assist nurses in planning individualized care. This article presents a unique perspective on alcoholism relapse by integrating two theories—the interactional approach theory and the theory of recovery and goal setting. Case studies illustrate this perspective.
