摘要:
In a nursing section for 54 senile, demented inpatients for the period of 3 months, a casual worker committed homicide in 11 cases and attempted homicide in 16 cases by peroral application of lye- and parachlorcresol-containing disinfectants. Autopsies had been performed in nearly all of the fatal cases without detection of the true causes of death. The fatal intoxications could be verified through reexamination of the lung slides and through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of the formalin-fixed tissue specimens.

摘要:
Atrial myxoma may present in unusual fashion and must be considered in the differential diagnosis of several conditions. A 17-year-old, white male presented with central nervous system symptoms, and the diagnosis was established postmortem. A brief discussion of tumor characteristics and diagnostic methods is made.

摘要:
A case of suicide where the victim used a four-barreled, concealable weapon firing 0.357 magnum ammunition is presented. Because of the extreme “blow back” effect caused by such a weapon, the direction of fire and manner of death were, at first, interpreted incorrectly by investigators.

摘要:
Some time lag, however small between time of death or the discovery of the body (and pending medicolegal autopsy), would appear to be indispensible and justified in each case for reasons of investigation. This time interval is reduced to a required minimum, depending upon the competency of crime investigative machinery and the concern of well-intentioned individuals. In a developing country like India, this can cause serious problems. The time lag interval between the discovery of the body and the autopsy is often very long in India, and may be attributed to reasons which are outside the legitimate needs of investigation, ranging from outright incompetence to cool callousness, willful omissions, or machinations based on unfair motivations and political compulsion. Long distances, proper communication, and availability of transportation all play their parts in the need for proper indentification and autopsy examination. In addition to delays in performing the autopsies, there are numerous instances of unnatural, sudden, and suspicious deaths, where postmortem examination is never done. These reasons range from those that are seemingly innocent to those which are grossly unfair or dishonest. The medicolegal postmortem index can vary between 20 and 80% in different areas of India.

摘要:
Two unusual patients with chronic, undifferentiated schizophrenia committed acts of ocular self- mutilation. The types of patients who perform acts of self-inflicted ocular injuries are described, with particular emphasis on individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A discussion of these cases, as well as a review of the literature on the more common forms of self-mutilation, is presented.

摘要:
At the Annual Meeting of the National Association of Medical Examiners in Chicago, Illinois, in November 1981, Dr. W. Sturner, Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Rhode Island, gave his perspectives as far as clinical forensic medicine and pathology are concerned. This topic, therefore, brought to mind the idea of writing an analysis of the medicolegal system in Greece. This article attempts to show the advantages, problems, and the perspectives of an old-style medicolegal investigation system, existing in Greece since 1910. The clinical aspects of forensic medicine and pathology is exemplified by the presentation of the preliminary results of the study of injuries in traffic accident victims, 1,600 cases examined by the author with the support of other colleagues in Athens, Greece.
