摘要:
In brief: Groin strains (and injuries assumed to be groin strains) have been treated with a simple, straightforward approach. However, complications too often arise from inadequate diagnosis or improper management of these injuries. A pelvic stress fracture, an avulsion injury, and even a tumor can be confused with a groin strain. This article discusses the importance of differential diagnosis, which can help prevent serious complications. The authors also present a case report of a football player who was diagnosed with myositis following a groin strain he had sustained a year earlier.

摘要:
In brief: Sports-related head injuries are relatively common among both amateur and professional athletes. Although most of these injuries are not severe, they occur in a wide variety of sports at all levels of participation. Diagnostic imaging for these injuries has increased in importance over the past decade, and techniques have become more sophisticated and accessible. The authors present a case report of intracranial trauma in a competitive cyclist and describe the various imaging methods—computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, plain film radiography, and angiography—used to evaluate head injuries. Computed tomography is emphasized because it is more widely used than the other methods.

摘要:
In brief: A survey was conducted of boxing injuries at the US Olympic Training Center (USOTC) from January 1977 through August 1987. The purpose was to determine the types of acute and chronic injuries sustained by amateurs during training, sparring, and competition. During the study period 447 injuries occurred. (The total number of boxers was unobtainable.) Most injuries were to the upper extremity (32.9%), followed by the lower extremity (23.9%), head and face (including eyes, ears, nose, and mouth/throat) (20.5%), and back (6.9%). Cerebral injuries accounted for only 6.5% of all injuries, probably because boxing at the USOTC is primarily noncompetitive and more blows to the head occur during competition than during sparring and training.

摘要:
Some athletes, though vigorous in their sports pursuits, may have life-thteatening cardiac anomalies. As this case conference demonstrates, such abnormalities are not always apparent on ECG or radiographic studies.

摘要:
In brief: This article recounts the tragedy of a 15-year-old hockey player who was struck in the chest by a puck and died during a high school game. After disclosing the autopsy report and the probable mechanism of death, the author reviews similar sports-missile chest injuries found in the literature and discusses how the team physician can establish a program to facilitate the grieving process, cope with newspaper and television reporters, and ease the team back into competition.

摘要:
Few spectators would dispute that coaching—at just about any level—is a stressful line of work. Some coaches seem able to manage the stress effectively, while others, like Ditka, are sometimes overcome by it.
