摘要:
In brief:One reason behind coaches' prohibitions of sexual activity before sports events may be the belief that abstinence increases frustration, which in turn is displaced into aggressive behavior toward competitors. However, this hypothesis is not always valid. In fact, depriving an athlete of a normal activity may cause guilt and a loss in concentration. Sexual activity throughout training may promote relaxation and positively affect performance. The author concludes that although there is a need for scientific research in this area, it seems that intercourse does not decrease performance unless it is accompanied by late-night socializing, sleep loss, or drinking.

摘要:
In brief:This study examined the strategies used in Washington to evaluate high school athletes in interscholastic competition. Seventy-one percent of the responding schools used a health history questionnaire, and all schools gave a preparticipation physical examination. Several weaknesses were noted: Not all students complete a history form, many history forms do not include items pertaining to sports, and completed histories and examination forms are not available at the time of injury and are often evaluated by people who are not competent to judge the significance of the response.

摘要:
In brief:The flat foot ranges in severity from imbalance caused by moderate forefoot varus to a hypermobile foot with ligamentous laxity and a plantar-flexed talus. Principal causes are soft-tissue or bony abnormalities and trauma or systemic disease. Treatment includes orthotic foot control and sometimes surgery. Sport shoes for people with pronated feet should have a very firm heel counter and should be moderately stiff.

摘要:
In brief:A lacrosse goalie was hit in the right neck lateral to the cricoid cartilage. He fainted, but responded to conservative measures of supine rest, elevated legs, and close observation. He now wears a neck protector similar to those worn by baseball catchers. This case report emphasizes that someone who is trained in basic life support and understands cardiovascular physiology should attend practices and games.

摘要:
One of Fred Kasch's most important contributions to exercise physiology and sportsmedicine was his frame of reference: his passion for measuring performance was always equaled by his belief that the resulting knowledge must be practically applied.

摘要:
Standard personal flotation devices have been shown to be inadequate for people with many different physical handicaps. Whether adequate ones will ever be made seems to depend on finding someone to foot the bill.
