摘要:
In briefMany people suffer from asthma MH and other allergic conditions. Participating in sports exposes these people both to specific allergens and to nonspecific factors that will influence the presentation of their allergic symptoms. Allergy patients experience both beneficial and deleterious effects of sports participation. For the patient whose symptoms are triggered or aggravated by sports activity, treatment should focus on avoiding or modifying the triggering factors either through physical means or through the use of pharmacologic agents.

摘要:
In briefTwo intercollegiate hockey players sustained a fracture of the fifth metatarsal. They were treated conservatively with a short leg cast for 10 to 13 days, followed by 4 to 6 weeks of physical therapy and no weight bearing. The athletes returned to competition 12 and 18 days postinjury, respectively. An Orthoplast pad was attached to the outside of the skate to protect the area during competition. Both players finished the season with no further problems. Because hockey players do not experience lower-extremity pounding, they can return to participation quickly and safely after fractures to the fifth metatarsal bone.

摘要:
In briefA case-control study was under-taken to study risk factors for collapse in nonelite runners who completed a marathon. Information was gathered on all runners who showed signs of collapse at the finish line and were treated in the medical unit, and on controls matched for finishing time. Runners who collapsed were compared with all finishers as well as with the controls. Significant factors associated with collapse were higher running speed (relative risk ratio = 5.24) and previous heat injury (p =.034). Differences in gender, age, marathon experience, current illness, fluid intake, and effort were not significant.
