摘要:
Acute sensorineural hearing loss, mostly unilateral and reversible, is a well-known complication to mumps. Secondary endolymphatic hydrops, Ménière’s syndrome, has rarely been associated with a previous mumps infection. This paper presents the case report of a woman who experienced unilateral hearing loss, vestibular symptoms and a caloric depression on the same ear during mumps. The symptoms and findings were reversible. Twelve years later she developed Ménière’s symptoms in the same ear. This continued for 2 years after which she suddenly had a sensorineural hearing loss. This was localized in the mid- and high-tone area and was almost identical with the initial hearing loss 14 years earlier. Viral damage to the resorptive structures of the inner ear seems to have caused the hydrops. It also seemed to have weakened the neuronal structures of the ear, letting the initial damage become overt after repeated attacks of pathological pressure

摘要:
Two siblings with Cockayne’s syndrome (CS) are described. Both showed cachectic dwarfism, photosensitivity and progressive neurological dysfunction. The damped-rotation test revealed no vestibular nystagmus in one of them, and reduced perrotatory nystagmus in the other. Neuropathological examination in the former subject disclosed neuronal loss with fibrillary gliosis in the vestibular nuclei, whereas neuronal degeneration was not apparent in the abducens nuclei, the oculomotor nuclei and the paramedian pontine reticular formation. Our findings suggest that CS might cause vestibular dysfunction as well as hearing loss and that the lesions in the vestibular nuclei might be related to the vestibular dysfunctio

摘要:
Although the sphenoid sinuses can be identified in sections of the fetus at 4 months, at birth the sinus remains small and is little more than an evagination of the sphenoethmoid recess. After the 3rd year, invasion of the sphenoid bone is more rapid, and by the age of 7, the sinus has extended posteriorly to the level of the sella turcica. By the age of 12, the sphenoid pneumatization reaches its final form and a size equivalent to the adult, although further enlargement into the basisphenoid may occur in the adult. Agenesis of paranasal sinuses is an uncommon clinical sign and refers mainly to the frontal and secondarily to the maxillary sinuses. Agenesis of sphenoid sinuses is a very rare phenomenon in the literature. We present a 32-year-old male patient with agenesis of sphenoid sinuses that was studied by CT.
