21 children with cervical lymphadenopathy caused by Mycobactenum avium-intracelluiare are presented. The relation to the cessation of BCG-vaccination in 1975 is discussed. The recommended treatment is surgery and the results of treatment are given.

Five cases of non-lethal midline granuloma of the nose are reported. Although the histopathological picture in all cases was identical, showing pleomorphic cellular infiltration, scattered areas of necrosis and vasculitis, the clinical picture and course of the disease were completely different from lethal midline granuloma. All the patients were in good general condition and had lived for quite long periods with their lesions. The pathological process was self-limited and totally confined to the nose, sparing the plate, the lips and other facial structures. An attempt has been made in this study to review contemporary thinking on the pathology of the condition with a suggestion to improve the existing classification.

Complete and partial surgical closure of the anterior nostril was performed in 50 cases of atrophic rhinitis. The cases were followed for different periods and were investigated clinically, histopathologically and histochemically. The results were recorded and compared with previous similar operations and results.

In this randomized double-blind study the effect of an oral, combined preparation (antihistamine + decongestant) on Eustachian tube function was compared with that of placebo in 80 adults with common cold. Tubal patency was measured by sonotu-bometry and indirectly by tympanometry. Sonotubometry clearly showed the Eustachian tube gradually returning to normal as the infection resolved. The tubal opening measurements revealed a slight tendency towards improved tubal function with the active drug, but the differences between the treated and the placebo group were statistically insignificant.

Effects of the ocular fixation upon caloric nystagmus were quantitatively analyzed and compared between normal subjects and patients by using a PDP 11/40 computer. The slow-phase velocity was the best parameter to separate normal from abnormal visual fixation. An analysis of caloric nystagmus with failure of fixation-suppression (FFS) made it possible to classify patterns of FFS into three types. The combination of FFS with impairment of the optokinetic responses provides a useful diagnostic tool with respect to lesions located between the brain stem and the cerebellum.

32 adult albino rabbits were used to investigate the oculomotor function of the mesodiencephalon. Bipolar electrical stimulation was used to induce saccades in un-anesthetized rabbits. Saccades were induced from relatively broad regions of the rabbit’s mesodiencephalon except for tractus opticus, a part of nucleus lateralis posterior thalami and some parts of nucleus pretectalis anterior. The direction of the saccades was generally ipsilateral to the stimulation site. Although the saccades were not influenced by caloric nystagmus or in blindfolding, the pattern of them was greatly influenced by a lateral recumbent position. Nystagmus was induced from tractus opticus, nucleus pretectalis anterior and nucleus lateralis posterior thalami. The nystagmus became remarkable in blindfolding, or when an eye ipsilateral to the stimulation site was covered.
