摘要:
Michael Withers had a range of engineering jobs before taking up the position of Managing Director of ERA Technology. He believes that British engineers should be able to work more efficiently than they do at present, thus securing the higher status they yearn for. He also states bluntly that those who run engineering organisations must have an engineering background, including the financial director! He recently expanded on these and other management philosophies in conversation with Glenis Moore.

摘要:
Broad indications are given for aspiring managers at all levels on the problems and possibilities of their task. This, the second part of a two-part article, follows the general considerationsm given in the first part (October 1991) by commenting, hopefully constructively, on a number of specific issues whichm commonly occur in management operations.

摘要:
An important aspect of the successful management of engineering innovation is a basic knowledge of the relevant law which protects that innovation—the portfolio phrase is ‘intellectual property rights’, i.e. the legal rights which protect ideas.

摘要:
This article draws attention to the demise of British manufacturing and stresses the importance of design. It makes clear that unless there is a change in attitude to the role of the professional engineer Britain's manufacturing base will continue to decline with markets steadily being lost to countries with a better motivated workforce. Parts 2 and 3 of the article will be published in the February and April 1992 issues of the Journal.

摘要:
Recent years have seen great changes throughout BT. The organisation has been transformed from a department of the Post Office with the Civil Service culture of 10 years ago into a modern private company which already has considerable global interests and is ambitious to expand its international business further.
