摘要:
SUMMARYAn experiment with client‐centered or non‐directive (Rogerian) group therapy for patients with epilepsy and concomitant problems in social adjustment is reported. The group comprised 7 patients hospitalized at the Instituut voor Epilepsiebe‐strijding in Heemstede. All the patients were referred to the Institute because of therapy‐resistant seizures. Simple modification of their drug regimes in their cases turned out to be in itself insufficient. The patients are briefly described; also a subjective evaluation of the author's experiences with this kind of therapy is given. It is remarked that a major obstacle to psychotherapy is the inclination of the patients to blame all their behaviour problems on their illness (epilepsy). The author regards the experiment as very encouraging. His impression is that psychotherapy forms a useful adjunct to the strict pharmaceutical approach of former days, though a control group and a follow‐up will be needed to prove the

SUMMARYDental hygiene and management of the epileptic patients are described. The author summarizes his experience with institutionalized, sometimes multihandicapped patients, often with frequent seizures. Even in them good oral hygiene and regular dental treatment can contribute to substantially improved social adjustment.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe authors have worked as vocational therapists in 4 Epilepsy Centres, in The Netherlands, in England and in Scotland. Comparing social treatment they consider that in The Netherlands to be superior: social service, training in the workshop and collaboration of these services both with the physicians and with the patients are more comprehensive, both for hospitalized and for ambulatory patients.RÉSUMÉLes auteurs ont travaillé dans 4 centres pour l'épilepsie en Hollande, en Angleterre et en Ecosse. Ils considèrent que du point de vue de l'assistance sociale, le centre de Hollande est le meilleur. Le service social, le training dans les ateliers et la collaboration de ces services avec les médecins et les patients, sont bien structurés pour les patients hospitalisés et ambul

摘要:
The Skovlunde Day‐Centre was founded by the Danish Epilepsy Association in 1968 and has been working for 3 years. It is situated in a suburb of greater Copenhagen, which has a population of 1,400,000. The institution receives patients or “pupils” from the whole area. Patients are referred from out‐patient clinics for epileptics, general practitioners and from the only hospital for epileptics in Denmark, the Filadelfia Colony. The maximum capacity is 25 pupils. There are a few patients on the waiting list. We feel, however, that there is an undiscovered need for another centre in t

摘要:
SUMMARYAs part of a project aiming to adapt mentally retarded persons to life and work, 21 mentally retarded persons were housed in 3 flats under the supervision of 3–4 caretakers. The flats were in new apartment houses for lower middle‐class families in a city. Two similar areas served as control. The attitudes were assessed by a 29‐item survey before and 2 years after the mentally retarded workers took occupancy. There was no change in attitude, possibly because contacts with and between the neighbours remained few. In a control area there was some contact with patients in an Institution for the Mentally Retarded, and there was a slight tendency to a more favourable att
