Two newly discovered classes of high‐altitude atmospheric flashes excited by lightning suggest that the electrical interactions between the lower atmosphere and the upper atmosphere and ionosphere are greater than previously thought. The core of the Earth is a little younger than previously thought, according to two University of Michigan geochemists. Studying the composition of rocks and meteorites, the pair believe they have found direct evidence that Earth's metallic core and its moon formed no less than 62 million years after the creation of the solar system.
