摘要:
Abstract—It is demonstrated that the high energy reaction of photomorphogenesis (blue‐far‐red reaction) in the case of seed germination and hypocotyl lengthening ofLactuca sativa(L.) ‘Grand Rapids' is a consequence solely of phytochrome. A hypothesis is presented in which all high energy phenomena can be explained on the basis of phyt

摘要:
Abstract—The response of seeds to irradiation by white light varies with the species: induction of germination, inhibition of germination or both according to the time‐irradiation. The low energy reaction (LER) which acts via phytochrome can explain many cases of influence of light upon germination. It seems possible that a second reaction, the high energy reaction (HER), acts through another photorecep

摘要:
Abstract—Red light can promote (a) the straightening of the curvature (Phaseolus vulgaris, Pisum sativum) (b) the formation of a loop (Phacelia tanacetifoliaandPicea abies) or (c) the induction of a curvature which does not occur in the darkness (Lactuca sativa). Thesc red‐light induced movements could be reversed by following each brief red exposure with short irradiation by far‐red light. These reactions are controlled by the phytochrome system. On the other hand, exposure to far‐red and blue light during a long period can induce other movements:(a) The light re‐opens the hook which has been closed by red radiation (Lactuca sativa).(b) The light induces the straightening of the dark‐induced curvature (Phacelia tanacetifolia). These facts may be due to an unknown property of phytochrome or to the action of another ph

摘要:
Abstract of the lecture—Multiplication rate and the rate of expansion of fronds ofLemna minorgrown on a culture medium with I 3 per cent sucrose and 3 × 10‐6M kinetin is much enhanced by a daily 3 min exposure to red light. Far‐red, given within 3 hr of the red illumination, counteracts the action of the red light. If the interval between the red irradiation and the exposure to far‐red is increased, a gradually smaller part of the action of red light can be counteracted by far‐red (Fig. 1). From the destruction ofP730observed by differential spectrophotometry(1)a much more rapid decrease of the counteracting effect of far‐red after the red illumination was expected. Similar effects have been observed by De
