摘要:
The purpose of this study was to identify 1) the needs of psychiatric nurses for information on AIDS; 2) the groups to whom they provide AIDS education, counseling, and referrals; and 3) their preferred resources for AIDS information. A national survey of 233 psychiatric nurses was conducted. The most important areas of need for AIDS information were psychosocial aspects of the care of AIDS patients, families, and healthcare workers; the assessment of AIDS symptoms; and management of psychiatric complications. The nurses provided education and counseling to a wide variety of transmission groups, community groups, and healthcare workers. They preferred continuing education conferences, journals, and popular print and visual media as resources for AIDS information.

摘要:
Many borderline patients experience gains, not setbacks, as negative and worthy of punishment. Thus, after taking a positive step toward being assertive and self‐directing, the patient feels depressed, anxious, bad, and afraid. The progress of therapy experiences many ups and downs, not unlike a roller coaster. This article explains the psychodynamics of this phenomenon in terms of Masterson's theory. A clinical example is used to demonstrate how to identify this process and to help the patient work through i

摘要:
Clients who have borderline personality disorders have special needs for family involvement in their treatment, and inpatient staff members need to be aware of these needs. This article discusses reactions staff may experience when treating such clients and families, reasons why establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with family members is important, and ways of approaching and developing these relationships. Confrontation and limit‐setting are seen as especially important, as is the role of teaching and suppor

摘要:
A therapeutic community consists of an interdisciplinary team working collaboratively with the patient to maximize the patient's potential health. This process requires nursing facilitation of the patient's movement towards and assumption of behaviors inherent in the roles of newcomer, member, and leader. The nurse contributes to the therapeutic milieu in many ways: as a change agent of human behavior, as a manipulator of the dynamic environment, as a confronter of discrepancies, as a role model of interpersonal skills, and as an identified leader with diversified functional skills. The nurse enhances her utilization of the therapeutic community by knowledge of roles enacted by staff, patients, and self.

摘要:
A commentary on approaches postulated to explain the self is appropriate to consider when reviewing the historical developments leading to the current recognition of Murray Bowen's family systems theory. Specifically, early psychoanalytic considerations emphasize the individual's development in relationship to mother. In contrast, Bowen's considerations emphasize the concept of individual development to the relationship with family of origin. This article purports that similarities in the conceptual frameworks between the psychoanalytic school and Bowen's theory remain deeply embedded.

摘要:
The authors of this article present a new model of psychotherapy, the interactive model. The model is based on the assumptions that individual functioning is based not only on the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor (behavioral) domains but also on the interaction among these domains. This therapy model directs the clinician toward assessment and intervention of these interactions

摘要:
With the growing population of older adults, healthcare providers must become aware of the unique manifestations of alcoholism exhibited by this population. There are many barriers that prevent an older adult with alcoholism from seeking or receiving help. Identification of factors that influence the diagnosis of alcoholism in the elderly and an awareness of referral barriers can help professionals in developing strategies and interventions that enhance and facilitate recovery.

The sexual abuse of women today is analyzed alongside the mythology of Ovid'sMetamorphoses. Two thousand years ago, Ovid unfolded a world view of human beliefs and practices that make up today's symptom formation and psychodynamic in victims of sexual abuse. 摘要:
The psychiatric nursing department at a university teaching hospital identified the need to develop a management tool to systematically and objectively determine resource requirements (staffing) for unique psychiatric patient populations. A classification methodology was needed for budget development, trending, productivity monitoring, and potentially developing a rich data base for nursing research. A study of existing classification systems found them to be limited for use in psychiatric settings. The psychiatric nursing department designed and implemented a patient classification tool based on biopsychosocial needs manifested by psychiatric patients in acute care settings.

摘要:
Aided by nurses using the belief clarification approach to intervention, a group of 20 females participated in eight structured sessions that addressed their beliefs and attitudes about being overweight. One participant redefined her negative experience into a more positive and realistic one that included recognizing additional sources of stress that contributed to low self‐esteem and negative body image. The overweight experience is discussed in terms of unrealistic expectations of dieting and weight los
