摘要:
Succession is a universal organizational process and therefore important for a comparative analysis of organizations. A review of published research indicated that succession tends to be a disruptive process. The small role-system of which the successor is a part and key characteristics of the whole organization's structure influence the degree of instability promoted by succession.

摘要:
Values, personal influence, and occupational choice interact in complex ways, and more can be learned by studying their three-way relationships than by using the traditional dependent-and-independent-variable design. This research attempts to show that these variables are systematically interrelated in the career decisions of college students planning to enter business,, scientific and esthetic, and general cultural occupations. Hypotheses are tested and further hypotheses proposed for study.

摘要:
This paper focuses on (1) value orientations associated with status and situs dimensions of occupational choice, (2) sociocultural correlates of occupational values, and (3) empirical interrelationships among these value orientations. Twelve value variables are specified in the research design. Data for the study were obtained from seniors in eight Kentucky rural high schools.

摘要:
Job performance ratings given by nursing supervisors to 48 hospital staff nurses working in three mid-western urban hospitals are examined in relation to (a) the extent to which nurses internalize norms held by their superiors, (b) their friendship with superiors, and (c) their friendship with peers. The general working hypothesis is that evaluations of subordinates are at least as likely to be associated with friendship choices as with internalization of official norms. An analysis of data revealed that: (1) Nurses evaluated as high-success by their supervisors do not have significantly higher consensus with their supervisors on work norms than nurses evaluated as low-success. (2) Nurses evaluated as high-success do receive significantly higher socio-metric ratings from superiors than nurses evaluated as low-success. (3) Nurses evaluated as high-success do not receive significantly different socio-metric ratings from peers than nurses evaluated as low-success. (4) Socio-metric ratings given nurses by supervisors and nurses are significantly correlated. Interpretations and conclusions are provided.

摘要:
Although we live in an era of rapid industrial change, little is understood of the phenomenology of change in job content. This paper reports a study in which attitudes toward work-related change were found to vary with social class background, social class identification, and position in the status structure of the work organization.

摘要:
Seven indexes of socio-economic status were compared utilizing data obtained from 1,805 families in 15 urban, suburban, and rural communities. Warner Index of Status Characteristics, by virtue of its high intercorrelation with the other scales, was the best measure. Father's occupation was closely related to social class level.

摘要:
This reports an investigation which found that satisfaction in marriage was related significantly to the congruency of the husband's self-concept and that held of him by his wife, but was found unrelated to the agreement of the concepts the wife holds of herself and that which her husband holds of her.

摘要:
Homogamy in personal values is indicated by a study of one hundred couples, including samples of both pre-married and married couples. To test the theory suggested by Winch that this homogamy is due to natural limitations of one's “field of eligibles,” these natural couples are compared to artificial couples which are matched on the basis of similar social characteristics. It is found that such controls account for a significant amount of homogamy, but a substantial degree of homogamy remains unexplained in this manner.

摘要:
Beginning with 1960, samples of the marriage and divorce statistical records will be obtained from the States and tabulated by NOVS. Also, in 1960, a county sample of records will be obtained from local officials to aid in preparing national data. This replaces the former system of obtaining tables from State offices for consolidation into national totals.

摘要:
Mill and town school children of a southern Piedmont community are compared in their educational and occupational aspirations and expectations. Results indicate that the lower-class mill children have relatively high aspirations and expectations and so share in the American dream of getting ahead. However, the mill-village setting mitigates against fulfilling the dream.
