The adsorption of inorganic ? (Pi) and organic ? (Po) compounds by amorphous aluminum hydroxide was studied over the equilibrium ? concentration range of 8 × 10‐7to 1 × 10‐4Munder normal lake pH conditions using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The isotherms for Pi and Po adsorption plotted according to a modified Langmuir equation generally exhibited multiphasic behavior indicative of more than one population of sorption sites differing in their affinity for P. Adsorption maxima and binding energy constants for the adsorption of inorganic and organic phosphorus compounds are reported. Cations, anions, and chelating agents typical of natural waters greatly affected Po adsorption. In general, Po adsorption increased with anionic charge, number of reactive phosphate groups, decreasing steric hindrance and decreasing molecular size. Results indicate that a significant fraction of the native Po in lakes differs from the model Po compounds studied.

摘要:
Tehran is facing a serious automotive air pollution problem. This is due to the large number of vehicles operating in Tehran, no auto‐exhaust emission control strategies in effect, and frequent occurrence of traffic congestions. Based on the emission factors which have been experimentally developed for automobiles in Tehran, Traffic survey, and fuel consumptions data the dally tonnage of the air pollutants from vehicles and other sources was calculated for year 1977. The study then focuses on the years 1982 and 1987. For each of these years projections of automotive and stationary emissions of air pollutants were determined under the assumption that no auto‐emission control would be implemented. Those emissions were then adjusted according to the extent of control in use.

摘要:
ATP in dilute solutions prepared for use as internal standards in the bioluminescence assay is gradually degraded if not continually kept at 0°C or below. The example in this note indicates over 160% recovery of ATP in samples due to the decreased ATP concentration in the internal standard stock solution over a period of 90 min. The degradation of ATP may be of concern in context of ATP‐analyzers with ATP‐injection systems unless precautions are undertaken to stabilize dilute ATP standards.

摘要:
Airborne bacteria were monitored near the aeration tank of a package sewage treatment plant serving a mobile‐home community. The concentrations of airborne coliforms were similar to those found at a conventional activated sludge unit. HC type Millipore filters were found to be the most efficient for the recovery of airborne fecal coliforms.

摘要:
An interlaboratory comparison exercise, carried out by Exxon Research and Engineering and the National Bureau of Standards, is described. Marine water samples obtained on a joint cruise using both laboratories’ water samplers were split and analyzed at both laboratories. Both samplers were found to be acceptable for the determination of hydrocarbons at μg/kg (ppb) levels. Differences in analyses were traceable to the analytical schemes employed by each laboratory.
