Plum Creek, a small 4th order tributary of the Clinch River in southwestern Virginia, experienced an oil spill in May, 1973. Approximately 13,000 liters of No. 2 fuel oil entered the creek 4.2 km above the confluence with the Clinch River. Collections of benthos and fishes made at eight stations over a five‐month period indicated minimal mortality. Immediate mortality of water snakes and waterfowl appeared relatively high. Fishes did not exhibit significant decreases in numbers of taxa or specimens collected at the site of the spill for the length of the survey.

摘要:
Beryllium concentrations have Deen measured in coal, process ashes and in‐stack particulates at a coal‐fired power plant in Maryland. Mass balance calculations reveal that less than 4% of the Be in the coal burned is being emitted to the atmosphere. These results are compared to other power‐plant studies which have reported Be data.

摘要:
Lead levels were monitored on the indoor firing range at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry was used for the analysis of lead. It was found that levels of lead, for both pistol and rifle, were significantly higher, while the range was in use, than existing standards. Also, lead concentrations from pistol use was much higher than that for rifle use. It was shown that a potential health hazard due to inorganic lead exposure exists on the N.J.I.T. range and recommendations for a proper ventilation system were made.

摘要:
In flame ionization detection of hydrocarbons, many parameters affect the carbon response of the detector for sample hydrocarbons relative to the calibration hydrocarbon. This report discusses the effect of the hydrogen‐to‐diluent ratio of the detector fuel on the relative carbon response; The response of a typical flame ionization detector to methane, acetylene, ethylene, benzene, and toluene relative to propane is presented for fuels of varying hydrogen percentage in helium and in nitrogen.
