摘要:
Solar gel is an alternate solar pond technology which overcomes the shortcomings of a conventional salt‐gradient solar pond. In this study, experimental results on the development of a suitable gel for the gel pond application are presented. The research is focused on developing a gel which can float on fresh water and to study ways of eliminating bubbles in a gel.

摘要:
During March 1988, three fungus species namely:Saprolegnia ferax,S. terrestrisandAchlya polyandrawere isolated from alive and dead specimens of two freshwater fishes (Cyprinus carpioandLiza abu), honey bees (Apis mellifera) and California flies (Calliphorasp.) which were cultured / or fallen in small fish tanks of the Department of Hydrobiology at Al‐Rashidiya, north of Baghdad, Iraqi. Occurrence of the above named fungi represents their first record inC. carpioandL. abuin Iraq.

摘要:
The variation of pollutant concentrations in surface waters shares broad interest by scientists and researchers in the field of water pollution control. Models are useful in defining the nature of water systems and the relation among its components. The degree of pollution, source of pollution and pollutant variation are among these components. This study evalutes the variations of various pollutants in the River Tigris at Baghdad utilizing different regression models. Some of the models used, give on excellent estimate of pollutants variation in term of distance, flow rate, and reference point concentration. Comparisons between estimated and actual values of pollutants are also mode.

摘要:
The concentration of copper, iron, chromium and nickel in fish and shellfish of Geras gulf, Lesvos island, Greece are determined. Method used is that of Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. Correlation of metal concentration to species and season of the year is tried. Data are compared to the dally allowable values for human beings.

摘要:
The UNIFAC group contribution method is applied for the prediction of the solubility of hydrocarbons in water. Liquid‐liquid binary interaction parameters were employed in the calculations. The average absolute deviation between the experimental and calculated solubilities is 23 percent which is a marked improvement over the results of previous applications of the UNIFAC method.

摘要:
Seven unweathered heavy residual oils, analyzed and compared for source identification purposes, demonstrate that the comparison of heavy residual oils must be performed with great care using a variety of analytical techniques and comparison methods. Furthermore, these methods are best applied to known common‐source pairs and to known non‐common‐source pairs in addition to the unknown pairs. Physical and chemical tests showed that, for the most part, these properties for the seven oils were within the error range of the test. Visual comparison of the chromatograms also showed that they were very similar. Normalized normal paraffin and isoprenoid peak height profiles, when subjected to measurement‐error and statistical comparisons, provided quantitative evaluations of the relative likelihood that the members of the various oil pairs were from a common source.

The efficacy of a few macrocyclic drugs, viz. 1,4,8,11‐tetraaza‐cyclo‐tetradecane (cyclam); 5,7,7’, 12,14,14'‐hexamethyl‐l, 4,8,11‐tetraaza‐cy'clo‐tetra‐decane (cyclam‐S); 1,4,8,11‐tetrahydroxyethyl‐1,4,8,11 ‐tetraazacyclo‐tetradecane (THEC) and 1,4,8,11‐tetramethyl‐1,4,8,11‐tetraazacyclotetrade‐cane (TMC) and their linear counterparts, viz. triethylene‐tetramine (TETA) and NN'‐bis‐(2‐aminoethyl)‐l,3‐propane diamine (TET) was examined for prevention of mortality and nickel uptake in the body organs of nickel poisoned mice (at the level of 250 μ mole/kg i.p. of NiCl2i.e. LD90or greater), when administered at various molar ratios of nickel vs. drug.
