摘要:
The use class of biocides was studied in order to nominate chemicals as candidates for carcinogen bioassay to the National Cancer Institute. After the application of several qualifying criteria that related to previous, current, or planned carcinogenicity testing and to commercial significance, the preliminary candidate list of 295 chemicals was reduced to a list of 61 final candidate chemicals. Based upon consideration of both the suspicion of possible carcinogenic activity and evidence indicating potential human exposure, the following eight chemicals were nominated: benzethonium chloride, hexahydro‐1,3,5‐tris(2‐hydroxy‐ethyl)triazine, benzyldimethyl(mixed alkyl)ammonium chloride, N‐(3‐chloroallyl)hexaminium chloride, 2,4,5‐trichlorophenol, o‐benzyl‐p‐chlorophenol, l,2‐benzisothiazolin‐3‐one, and zinc pyrithione.

摘要:
The class of organometallic compounds was studied in order to nominate chemicals to the National Cancer Institute as candidates for carcinogen bioassay. A preliminary list of 1,815 candidate chemicals was developed for four major subclasses: (1) alkyl organometallics; (2) aryl organometallics, coordination compounds, and miscellaneous organometallics; (3) organosilicon compounds; and (4) organophosphorus compounds. Based on an evaluation of both the evidence Indicating possible suspicion of carcinogenic activity and evidence indicating potential human exposure, the following five nominations were made: chromium carbonyl, ferrocene, ferric ammonium ferrocyanide, triphenylantimony, and the representative organosilicons, octamethyltrisiloxane, and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane.

An empirical model is presented for generating runoff hydrographs for nationwide drainage basins as a function of the drainage area, population desnity, and rainfall excess distribution. The model was tested against data obtained in a Southeast Michigan system.

摘要:
Thin strips of polyester type foams loaded with the complexing agent 1‐(2‐pyridylazo‐2)‐naphthol or PAN were used to preconcentrate trace amounts of cadmium from large volumes of water. This technique circumvents the need for auxiliary instrumentation and energy source. At 10 μg/L concentration of cadmium, in 670 1 of water, a relationship between the number of micrograms collected on the strips and time of immersion of the strips in the sample has been obtained. The deviation of this curve from linearity is explained.
