摘要:
Part of ‖The Secretary's Letter‗ published in the ‖British Medical Association News‗ for January, 1975, New Series, Vol. 1, No.1, and reproduced here by kind permission of the Secretary of the B.M.A., Dr Derek Stevenson, and the Editor of B.M.A. News. In the WMA Dr Stevenson is known as a wise and moderate Member of Council: Fortunately for. the B.M.A. he is also a strong negotiator. The present struggle in Britain between Government and profession is a model for other national medical associations to study, because the solely national problems which have brought matters to a head there are symptomatic of the more general intrinsic conflict which under lies so often the relationship between the professions of medicine and politics.

摘要:
In these days of exponential increases in new knowledge, it is suddenly very urgent to know how to handle such riches. In data storage, data analysis and survey analysis, computers are becoming indispensable. in the following two articles, Professor Holland examines the proven uses of computers in medical recording, from which we may see how they will serve us in the future.

摘要:
Dr O. K. Harlem in his presidential address indicated that the medical practitioner was going through a period in which he was searching for his role in society. Dr Peart's theme is that the medical profession of the world (as represented by the World Medical Association) should also be searching for its role in a changing world.

摘要:
The pattern of drug abuse in Europe is not quite the same as in North America; one notable feature is the geographical distribution, with most of the problem still in the northern areas.Dr Idänpään‐Heikkilä, a Finnish pharmacologist, divides the problem as seen in Northern Europe into abuse by juveniles and by adults; the former abuse drugs such as cannabis products, LSD and central stimulants but there is little heroin abuse, apart from the U.K. Older people tend to abuse legal drugs such as analgesics, hypnotics and tranquillizers.

摘要:
In Britain the last ten years have seen a remarkable change in general practice. A branch of medicine which appeared to be in decay has been reborn, and its future looks bright. Dr Irvine, who is in a group practice in Northumberland, discusses how this has come about and what remains to be done to adapt British general practice to a changing pattern of illness and changing demands for medical care.
