摘要:
This paper identifies some energy and environmental options for the future in Australia. Some possible growth patterns for both conventional energies and the renewable energies over the next decade are described using a modified S-curve (logistic curve) linked to the Volterra-Lotka equations of competition. Particular attention is paid to the production of CO2. The final conclusions suggest that some radical rethinking in the energy mix may be required, and that contrary to current official scenarios, there could be a significant increase in the use of natural gas and the renewables.

Data of the time series of the daily solar irradiation on horizontal surfaces from 32 Spanish stations were analyzed. The method applied deals with stochastic components X(i,t) as following a first order Markov model. The results of the first order autocorrelation coefficient for each series vary from 0.23 to 0.49 in the Peninsula and from 0.33 to 0.62 in the Islands. The similitude, based on a contingency coefficient, between the frequency distributions of the simulated and experimental data of the residual time series X(i,t), is about 90% for every station.

摘要:
The endoreversible cycle model of refrigerators is extended to an irreversible cycle model which includes the irreversibility of finite-rate heat transfer and the internal irreversibility of the working fluid. The cycle model is then used to analyze the optimal performance of refrigerators. For a specified cooling rate and a given overall heat transfer area of the two heat exchangers, minimizing the coefficient of performance of refrigerators leads to an optimal ratio of the two heat exchanger areas.

Results of experimental studies conducted in Teaneck, New Jersey and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to determine seasonal variations of subsurface ground temperature for one year are presented in this paper. The experimental set up for automated data collection to a depth of 17 feet (5.18 m) is described. The results indicate that the ground temperatures do not vary much with depth, at depths greater than 15 feet (4.57 m). However, there is seasonal variation indicating that the average ground temperature at a depth of 15 feet (4.57 m) is 66°F (18.9°C) during winter, and it is 58°F (14.44°C) during summer months. In addition, there is a temperature differential of 20 to 25°F (11.1 to 13.9°C) between the ground temperature at 15 feet (4.57 m) and ambient temperature. This temperature differential suggests that there is a potential for pre-heating and pre-cooling the ambient air used in conditioning in commercial and institutional buildings. The empirical equations for predicting average monthly subsurface ground temperatures are presented. This information is useful in the design and analysis of ground coupled heat pumps.

摘要:
This paper presents a state-of-the-art study of solar collector-cum-storage systems with one or more mirror boosters suitable for water heating applications. Three specific configurations for solar collector with storage viz., a shallow solar pond, rectangular built-in-storage and triangular built-in-storage have been considered and their thermal modelling results with two and four reflectors on the solar collection system are presented in the form of graphs and tables. The thermal performance of each configuration is increased significantly by addition of reflectors R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 surrounding the solar collector/storage systems. The effect is a maximum for the triangular built-in-storage solar water heater (the rise in the water temperature is about 10°C for winter and about 12°C for summer) and a minimum for the shallow solar pond water heater (the rise in the water temperature is about 7°C for winter and about 8°C for summer).

The standard technique of process analysis has been used to determine the energy yield ratio of the three popular designs of biogas plants in India. The effects of size and retention time on energy yield ratio have also been studied.
