摘要:
This paper reviews the position of the renewable energy resources in the UK in 1986. Their historical development is traced and the record of UK Government support for renewable Research and Development is compared with that of some other western industrial countries. Several resources show considerable promise and are already economically attractive. Each of the renewable possibilities is examined in detail in the paper, a number of socio-economic issues are also raised.

The long term exergy output was calculated for four types of solar collectors located in Sevilla and operating at 50°C. 70°C and 200°C. The performance model PROSOL [1] has been used to predict the long term energy output for several collector types.

摘要:
An analysis is developed for the soiar chimney, aimed particularly at deriving overall efficiency and significant performance data. Numerical values are consistent with available information on the 200 m solar chimney at Manzanares, Spain, and projected designs. Overall efficiency is directly related to the height of the chimney and is shown to be about 1% for a height of 1000 m. It is concluded that the solar chimney is essentially a power generator of large scale.

摘要:
A general observation from the Gulf States is that some buildings are completely dependent on mechanical air-conditioning. Due to the availability of cheap energy, some designers tend to overlook the importance of climate during the design process. As a result, a large amount of energy is needed for the mechanical control of indoor climate. It is estimated that approximately 65% of the electrical energy generated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is consumed in buildings. There is no doubt that a large proportion of this energy is used in cooling the buildings during the long hot summer. This paper has also been influenced by the latest development plan of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which calls for energy savings.
