On 11 June 1983, a total eclipse of the sun occurred over Java, producing a partial eclipse over Northern Australia. Pyrheliometers located at three solar radiation stations in the Northern Territory recorded the direct radiation during the eclipse. The unobscured area of the solar disc during this event was computed from formulae given in the Supplement to the Astronomical Ephemeris [1]. Comparison of the reduced direct solar insolation with the uneclipsed solar area shows an approximately constant ratio between these two quantities during the event, based on measurements taken at Darwin.

摘要:
Maximum power and efficiency at the maximum power of an irreversible solar heat engine are treated. When time is explicitly considered in the energy exchanges between the solar heat engine and its surroundings, it is found that there is a bound on the efficiency of the real solar heat engine at the maximum power condition. This bound can guide the evaluation of existing solar power generating systems or influence design of future solar heat engines.

摘要:
A simulation program has been developed for Changi International Airport Services (CIAS) solar heating system and predicted results are compared with observed performance. The solar system consists of energy collection and storage device, heat exchangers, air cooling units, and auxiliary heaters. Established engineering principles have been used for the simulation of the components, and the meteorological data have been used as the driving function. Experimental results are compared with predicted values, both on hourly and daily basis. Simulated results are found to agree reasonably well with the measured data within the accuracy of measurements. This helps to establish the validity of the model for system simulation and thus it can be used for the evaluation of long term performance of a solar system applied to industrial process heating.

摘要:
The paper begins by examining the reasons for using alcohol fuels as a replacement for petroleum-derived fuels. The wide range of sources of alcohols enable most nations to undertake production of indigenous supplies. In general alcohols are excellent fuels for the spark-ignition engine of traditional design. Alcohol is quite unsuited in combustion properties for the more efficient unthrottled compression-ignition (diesel) engine. The reasons for this are explained and various means of overcoming the problems are outlined—additives for cetane improvement, alcohol-diesel emulsions, dual injection, fumigation, surface ignition and spark ignition. In each case the practical drawbacks as well as the benefits are discussed. Finally some conclusions are drawn about the potential for alcohol-fuelled diesel engines based on the authors' studies and experimental work.

Its temperature and water content are derived for a simple model. From this model, the thermal behaviour of clothing to insure comfort for different climates is then analysed.

摘要:
The position of the sun at any time of the day and year can be found to within one hundredth of a degree of arc with computer programs that have appeared in the literature. However, many solar energy text books give, instead, empirical methods which do not require access to a computer. For some solar energy applications the results of these empirical methods may not be sufficiently accurate. This paper compares five empirical procedures for calculating the equation of time, necessary for obtaining solar position, and then tests one of these against the computed solution. It is found that errors of at least five degrees of solar elevation can result from use of the empirical procedures.
