摘要:
AbstractAt approximately 6:09 P.M. on November 7, 1963 a fireball passed over the San Francisco Bay area and exploded over the Pacific Ocean. News broadcasts the following morning reported that power failure and radio interference occurred at the time the fireball passed. Investigation revealed that the radio interference was not caused by the fireball but by a coincidental equipment malfunction within the radio station. Less complete data on the power failures suggests that they, too, were coincidental and unrelated to the fireball. Reports on the fireball were received from 65 individuals. Three reports of anomalous sounds are unconvincing.

摘要:
AbstractThe Roter Kamm Crater in Southwest Africa is a highly probable meteorite impact crater of some antiquity. It is about 1.5 miles across, making it the third‐largest young probable meteorite crater in the world. Roter Kamm has a presumably thick desert‐sand fill. It is now 400 feet deep below its rim and 100 feet deep below the regional Archean terrane. The high circularity, regional uniqueness and other aspects all point to a meteoritic ori

摘要:
AbstractThe fall of a stony meteorite in the State late in 1960, and its subsequent discovery in 1961, stimulated interest in meteoritics in this area. An advisory committee was set up to advise the trustees of the Museum of Western Australia on the valuable collections already held, and to encourage further discoveries. The results of this action have become evident in several important discoveries.

摘要:
AbstractA dumbbell shaped australite from Port Campbell, western Victoria, weighing a little over 5 grams and with a specific gravity of 2.381, possesses two gibbosities of unequal size and remnants of a circumferential flange with the same width in the waist regions as around the two unequal gibbosities. The anterior surface that faced down the flight path during high speed entry through the earth's atmosphere shows an unusual series of flow ridges in the aerodynamic sculpture pattern that extends from the stagnation point region of the larger gibbosity, across the waist region, and across the smaller gibbosity to its distal end. Such a series of flow ridges indicates that the trim of the dumbbell of tektite glass was generally broadside‐on, but with the front pole of the larger gibbosity somewhat in advance of that of the smaller gibbosity, so that the long axis of the form was at a small angle to the normal to the flight path directio

摘要:
AbstractThe similarity of the morphology of Goalpara and Nova Urei and sheared Coconino sandstone is demonstrated. On the assumption that they are generically related, the problems of metamorphosis are analyzed. On this basis a model secondary meteorite is constructed. It is concluded that known physical and chemical functions need not be extrapolated beyond reasonable possibilities to explain the metamorphosis of Coconino to Goalpara and Nova Urei. These considerations, if valid, might throw some light on the apparent bunching of cosmic exposure ages of certain meteorites.

摘要:
AbstractA search at the site of the Goose Lake meteorite impact point revealed large numbers of nickel‐iron and laminar oxide fragments. Evidence that the Neumann lines in the nickel‐iron fragments are quite dissimilar to those in the main mass of the meteorite suggests that their origin is independent, that they were swept up by the meteoroid during its long life in orbit around the sun. Only those fragments which found their way into the cavities of the main mass were recovered, all others being swept away by the air stream during its fall. Cavity transportation explains their abundance locally at the impact site, as well as protection against aerodynamic heating. The laminar oxide fragments, similar to those found at Canyon Diablo, appear to have come from another f

摘要:
AbstractA 17 pound fragment of the Pierceville #2, Kansas, oxidized siderite, when sectioned, displayed an unusual structure. Three‐fourths of the mass exhibited medium oxahedral, the remaining one‐fourth, hexahedral crystallization. The two dissimilar crystallization patterns (and by inference, dissimilar chemical compositions) existing within the same mass were separated one from the other by borders of schreibersite which surrounded the hexahedral areas. Implications of the existence of such diverse supra‐crystalline structure in relation to currently listed multiple falls of iron meteorites are noted. Further investigation is indi
