摘要:
AbstractA multidimensional psychotherapy is described which selectively integrates existing approaches with those which we have found to be useful in the management of patients with anorexia nervosa. General principles for facilitating the development of trust in the therapeutic relationship as well as factors contributing to the patient's ambivalence toward treatment are outlined. The interaction between psychopathology and starvation symptoms or other sequelae is emphasized. Specific clinical strategies for promoting cognitive, affective and behavioral change within the individual are proposed. Recommendations are made for dealing with issues such as weight, eating, body‐image misperception, bulimia, self‐concept deficiencies and the development of autonomy commonly encountered with the anorexic patient. Family therapy is advised for some patie

摘要:
AbstractThe apparent increase in the incidence of anorexia nervosa and associated disorders prompted the present investigation of the relative impact of varying levels of anorexia on life adjustment of late adolescent women. Three groups of women were compared on measures of social adjustment and symptomatic distress; these groups were: primary anorexics, college women manifesting high levels of “anorexic‐like” behavior, and asymptomatic college controls. Despite the prevalence of “anorexic‐like” behaviors among college women, such behaviors did not seriously affect the academic performance, social‐leisure adjustment or family relations of these women. The lives of outpatient primary anorexics were seriously impaired

摘要:
AbstractAvailable studies indicate that the bulimia syndrome is a fairly common problem in young women. However, the exact incidence is unknown. In addition to binge‐eating, patients with the problem usually either selfinduce vomiting or abuse laxatives as a means to rid themselves of unwanted food. A variety of medical complications have been described in association with bulimia including electrolyte abnormalities, parotid gland swelling, gastric dilatation and dental problems. Medical conditions which can mimic the bulimia syndrome are discussed. Little is known about the longitudinal course of this disorde

摘要:
AbstractPlasma testosterone was measured in three males and thirty‐six female patients before and after treatment for anorexia nervosa. Low testosterone values were found before treatment, and weight gain was associated with an increase to normal levels. LH, and to a lesser extent FSH, increased during treatment, in accord with previous reports. It is suggested that in males, documentation of the return to normal testosterone levels be made one routine indicator of a return to biological health similar to the return of menstrual cycles for female
