摘要:
A knowledge-based navigation system for autonomous land vehicles (ALVs) has been developed which can successfully negotiate an obstacle and threat-laden terrain, even if nothing is known beforehand about the terrain. The ALV stores new information in its memory as it travels, has the ability to backtrack out of unexpected dead ends, and performs spontaneous decision making in the field based on local sensor readings. The optimal global route of the ALV journey is obtained using dynamic programming, and decision making is accomplished via a production rule-based system. Execution examples demonstrate the power of the prototype system to solve navigation problems. This establishes the feasibility of constructing a valid ALV by combining search techniques with artificial intelligence tools such as production rule-based systems.

摘要:
The field of artificial intelligence and education, in which AI techniques and methodologies are used to build sophisticated intelligent educational systems, is developing rapidly. In this paper we present an intelligent educational system for teaching high school and college students how to analyze and draw graphs of mathematical functions. The system, named SEDAF, has been developed in a knowledge engineering environment and runs on a Lisp-machine workstation. We illustrate the various modules constituting SEDAF: the user interface; an expert module, capable of solving problems in the subject domain; a diagnosis module, which points out possible reasons for students' errors; a student modeling module, capable of building an explicit representation of the learning status of the student; and a remedial subsystem, called a therapy module, constituted by means-ends tutorial rules that execute teaching actions on the base of the status of the student model. The goal of the presentation is to stress the innovative aspects of the architecture of SEDAF, in particular the use of metalevel knowledge to embed in the system the teaching expertise that allows the system to personalize its behavior to the specific student and to pursue a didactic plan.

摘要:
This paper describes the implementation of WQMS, a general-purpose qualitative modeling environment that integrates the process-centered approach and the constraint-centered approach. A new simulation algorithm is presented in which, owing to this integration, some drawbacks of QSIM are overcome using a depth-first strategy in the assessment of the qualitative states and a reduced set of input variables. With this algorithm it is possible to achieve qualitative simulations in cases in which simulations by QSIM are not feasible, because in some complex systems it is possible neither to specify the initial conditions for all required variables nor to handle the amount of branching that arises with normal computer facilities. An implementation of modeling and simulation of two biological systems is shown; to the best of the authors' knowledge, WQMS is the only environment with which a qualitative simulation can be achieved for these systems.

摘要:
The transformation of knowledge bases from one expert system tool to another raises several issues: transformation of the syntax, adaptation to a different inferencing procedure, conservation of the knowledge, testing and evaluation of the transformed knowledge base, and its comparison to the original. The solutions for these issues were developed during the transformation of six expert systems originally developed with PC+, a parameter-driven expert system tool and one expert system developed with KES-HT, a hypothesis and lest expert system tool, into a forward-chaining pattern-matching tool: CLIPS.
