摘要:
This paper studies the Multiple Run Sampling (MRS) plan introduced by Vance and Mc Donald (1979) which is useful for the initial stages of production. This plan accepts the process or a batch if a run of s conforming items is observed before the occurrence of k+1 non-conforming items. Formulae are given for the Operating Characteristic (OC) and Average Sample Number (ASN) of the plan along with tables useful for designing MRS plans when the fraction of nonconforming items is very low.

摘要:
Integrating the use of statistical process control (SPC) with engineering process control (EPC) enhances the results of industrial processes. Often it is assumed that disturbances in an industrial process may be immediately found and removed. It is believed that these disturbances can be removed more quickly when one observes the triggered out-of-control signal of SPC schemes. But this detection, removal, and correction of the problems in the process is seldom quick or easy. Integrating industrial standard schemes of SPC and EPC, this study aims to detect and identify a disturbance and begin an adaptive control mode to compensate for the disturbances. Superior process control can be achieved through the application of the proposed integrated SPC and EPC schemes discussed in this paper.

摘要:
Accelerated life testings(ALT) are usually conducted at higher than normal stress levels, in order to induce failures. And it is often assumed that there is a close relation between certain paramaters of the life distribution and the stress level at which the experiment is conducted. However, because of the different effects on the failure mechanisms, this assumption is unreasonable in many practical situations. In this article, we relax this assumption to fit the data arising from an ALT, and we apply the Dynamic Bayesian method to inference from ALT, and then modify the method, which is proposed by Proschan and Singpurwalla(1980), of extrapolating the failure rate under the normal stress to the proportional hazards model. According to the results of simulation study and analysis of real data, the estimated failure rate, by our method, under the normal stress is more reasonable.

摘要:
In this article, we propose a new model selection criterion with a penalty function based on the penalty functions of the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) of Schwartz (1978) and Theil’s (1961) R2criterion. We compare the performance of this new criterion with some commonly used model selection criteria in the context of selecting regressors for the linear regression model. We show that this new criterion is strongly consistent, very competitive and usually selects more parsimonious models compared to Akaike’s (1973) information criterion (AIC), R2and the generalized cross validation (GCV) criteria but is generally less parsimonious than BIC.

摘要:
In this article, multiple comparison procedures with the average of scale parameters for normal and exponential populations are proposed. A subset selection procedure and a confidence interval procedure are investigated. These procedures will have broad applicability in identifying groups of treatments with smaller than the average, larger than the average and not different from the average variability in various fields. Bonferroni inequality is used to bound the probability of a correct selection and the coverage probability of confidence intervals. The Pearson’s approximation to the sampling distribution of the log chi-square ratio utilized in both subset selection and confidence intervals is shown to be satisfactory compared with the simulation results. Statistical tables to implement these procedures for the case of equal sample sizes are provided for use in practice.

摘要:
The trimmed conditional confidence interval (CCI) is introduced for estimating the shift between two populations. The trimmed CCI is compared to an untrimmed CCI and to intervals obtained from the trimmed mean the usualt-procedure and the bootstrap. The simulations show that the trimmed CCI generates the shortest intervals while maintaining coverage rates at the nominal level. The untrimmed CCI is reasonably robust with respect to moderate departures from the procedural assumptions and performs well compared to the nontrimmed procedures. Both versions of the CCI are calculated easily and are suitable for use in an interactive setting. SAS and S code for obtained the CCI are available from the authors.

摘要:
The estimation of the five parameters of the mixture of two normal components is studied, with emphasis on the estimation of mixing proportion. The method proposed is based on the power-divergence introduced by Cressie and Read (1984) and Read and Cressie (1988). Computational results compare the efficiency as well as the robustness under symmetric departures from component normality of different members of the family we study. Our results indicate that the member of the family corresponding to the parameter value 2/3 is, for almost all the cases, comparable to the well-known estimators.

摘要:
A single-stage sampling procedure is proposed for obtaining a nearly optimal confidence interval on the largest (or smallest) mean ofkindependent normal populations when the common variances are unknown. Numerical methods to obtain the percentage points are thoroughly explained. Tables of these percentage points are given.

摘要:
This paper uses the local Lyapunov exponent (Wolff (1992)) to show that the dynamics of a chaotic (with and without noise) SETAR(2; l, l)is similar to that of a noisy limit cycle generated from a SETAR(2; 1, 1).

摘要:
This paper describes a method to estimate survival time distributions when the survival time is defined as the time from the start of the observation period to the time at the completion of successive occurrences of a response for a predetermined number of times. The method is based on transition (Markov) models (Zeger and Liang,Statistics in Medicine1992). The survival time distributions are determined using the covariate adjusted transition probabilities. An application using time to achieve remission from a depressive episode in an elderly population is discussed.
