摘要:
&NA;This article examines the learning processes of the infant and the fundamental role of the caregiver in the development of social‐emotional skills. Research in the area of infant brain development is considered, together with earlier work in the child development area, in a synthesis of “old” and “new” thinking. The work of Perry and Greenspan is reviewed in the context of the compromised infant, and this provides a framework for the therapeutic interventions of the Champion Centre, Christchurch, New Zealand. The “lived experience” model takes into account the dual coding of affect and behavior as the architecture of social and emotional development. It also considers the interactive and reciprocal role of the caregiver in this process. Recognition and attention to these parameters is considered crucial for children with a disability.

摘要:
&NA;The study described herein is a controlled trial on the efficacy of a well‐structured early intervention program for children with clearly marked biological impairments. Twenty‐four children were placed into two matched groups in terms of age, sex, type of disability, functional level, and family socioeconomic status. The treatment group received a weekly educational visit from early intervention advisors for 2 years while the control group received no form of intervention due to lack of provision in the remote provincial towns and islands where the families were living. Four assessments using Griffith's developmental checklists were made in both groups: an initial assessment, a first year assessment, a second year assessment, and 8 months after the end of the program. The results are significantly encouraging. They show remarkable gains for the treatment group both in terms of overall functioning level and in terms of acceleration in different domains of development. The control group remained more or less stable. Gains for the treatment group continued to occur, but at a lesser rate, through the second year. Moreover, gains in development for the treatment group were not lost 8 months after the end of the program. Although the sample is rather small, there are clear indications that early intervention projects that treat children having biologically based disabilities are effective.

摘要:
&NA;This article focuses on the European experience with early intervention for children with Down's syndrome. After two decades of evaluation, there is a need for a debate on its methodology. Early intervention for children with Down's syndrome is viewed, in this article, as a reconstruction of the construction processes of the child in order to facilitate optimal response to environment conditions. It demands communication skills, a high level of transparency, theoretical education, and trust in the resources of the child.

摘要:
&NA;The process of early intervention, both for children with delayed development and for those with disabilities, depends to a great extent on parent‐expert cooperation. Based on an analysis of literature, this article describes the main challenges facing successful parental cooperation and what is to be achieved by it. The results of a survey of 984 mothers in Bavaria are used to illustrate the personal views of mothers regarding cooperation and what they expect to achieve from parent‐expert partnerships. The indicators for effective parent‐expert collaboration that became apparent from this survey can and should be used in the development of systematic cooperation diagnostics for early intervention.

摘要:
&NA;In Sweden there is a trend toward family‐centered intervention for children with disabilities. However, most professionals are trained in child‐focused intervention. The shift in focus has made it necessary to train professionals in the new orientation. This article discusses in‐service training of professionals in family‐centered practices. The training, which has been implemented on an interdisciplinary team basis in the context of ordinary habilitation services, is described as one of several options for fostering improvement within an organization. The implications for educational needs assessment, preparatory work, and the implementation and evaluation of training when moderators of change are integrated into ordinary services are discussed.

摘要:
&NA;This article presents the construction process and the first statistical analysis of the EPASSEI (European Parent Satisfaction Scale about Early Intervention). The 57 items of this scale are based on the ideological postulates of the manifest of EURLYAID, which defines the most important dimensions of intervention in early childhood education. A factor analysis of the answers of 584 families (from 8 different countries) shows a factorial solution with 8 dimensions: satisfaction about child‐centered intervention, parent‐centered intervention, sibling‐centered intervention, partnership between professionals and parents, organization of the service, help for the parents in accessing social networks, help for the child in accessing social networks, and satisfaction with help accessing to community resources. A reliability analysis of the scale shows coefficients with high levels of significance. In general parents are quite satisfied with early intervention, but the satisfaction scores are dependant on the 8 satisfaction dimensions.

摘要:
&NA;This article presents five models of early intervention used in Budapest. The diagnostic and treatment methods invented by professor Katona and colleagues at the Pediatric Institute and the Conductive Education System are internationally known therapies. DSGM therapy and the Gezenguz method have received less recognition so far. The Early Developmental Center uses a combination of methods based on the child and family needs. Early intervention is a diverse enterprise in Hungary, and the programs differ considerably in their philosophies and practices. Although Hungarian intervention methods have achieved outstanding results, there are many problems needing to be solved.
