摘要:
Provision of clearance for high-voltage overhead lines under tunnels and bridges is a major part of the cost of a new railway-electrification scheme. These costs have been reduced over the years by the use of glass-fibre insulators and small working clearances. The paper describes a development in glass-fibre-insulator design which allows much smaller clearances (100 mm) to be used at 25 kV AC. It also outlines the failure mechanism peculiar to these insulators caused by iron-brake-shoe dust and describes an accelerated iron-oxide/fog-chamber test used to evaluate new coating materials for glass-fibre insulators.

摘要:
Optimal base-drive requirements for the high-voltage power switching transistor are given. These requirements are used to minimise switching stresses and the amount of switching-aid circuit energy to be recovered. A passive resonant recovery technique is analysed and employed to transfer stored switching-aid circuit energy into the load. Experimental results for a 600 V, 100 A, 100 kHz Darlington switching module incorporating 95% efficient switching-aid circuit energy recovery are presented.

摘要:
The paper describes the construction, and presents experimental results, for a new form of eddy-current starter for slip-ring induction motors. The proposed new eddy-current starter offers an improved power to weight ratio.
