摘要:
This paper presents two generalized matrix continued-fraction descriptions in the second Cauer form from a transfer function matrix and/or matrix fraction descriptions which may contain non-square and/or non-regular polynomial matrices. It also presents two model reduction techniques for model simplification of high-degree non-square transfer function matrices and matrix fraction descriptions. The expansion algorithms as well as the inversion algorithms for the generalized matrix continued-fraction descriptions are derived. Two model reduction techniques, which are the matrix continued-fraction expansion method and the mixed method of the matrix continued-fraction expansion method and the equivalent-dominant pole method, are developed for model simplification of multivariable control systems.

This paper presents a consequent state-space approach to the theory of control systems with variable structure. The design methods of controllers and observer-controllers are extended for such systems and algorithms are given for determining the time responses to disturbances and tracking. The time-response calculation is demonstrated using the example of a chemical reactor with heating and cooling.

The paper deals with the canonical decomposition of discrete-time linear systems based on the classical properties of reachability, controllability, observability and reconstructibility. First, a set of relationships between the structural subspaces is established and used to derive a general form of the discrete-lime duality principle. By means of these results, a sufficient condition for the existence of a canonical decomposition is worked out. Such a condition is also necessary if the attention is focused on decompositions based on the classical structural properties. Depending on the pair of properties considered, four different decompositions can be achieved. Finally, by making reference to controllability and reconstructibility a canonical decomposition is shown to exist for periodic systems. In general, non-reversible periodic systems admit no other decomposition but this one.

摘要:
The parameters of a single-input single-output system (transfer function) are identified from the estimated parameters obtained using Prony's method to provide an exponential fit to the impulse-response data. The various relationships that exist between these two parameter sets are established by using state-variabie canonical forms. It is shown that the observability canonical form arises naturally from the algorithm that constitutes Prony's method. Finally, laboratory data involving the flow of a pesticide through an aquatic microcosm are used to illustrate the methods developed.

A 2 × 2 multiple input-output plant, with a specified range of parameter uncertainty and specified tolerances on the response, is considered. Schauder's fixed-point theorem is used to generate a quantitative synthesis technique which ensures: (1) a rigorous satisfaction of the performance tolerances in the case of no input failures; (2) a stable behaviour of the designed system and acceptable satisfaction of the imposed tolerances in the cases of any single input failure. So, the requirements on each output impose three design conditions simultaneously. A synthesis procedure to achieve these objectives is formulated. The procedure is applied to a practical design example, the longitudinal mode of the fighter aircraft YF16-CCV.

Application of optimal control, for planning a dynamic economy, calls for the specification and estimation of a proper econometric model. This estimation is based upon information available up to the current period. Future information, however, should be taken into consideration, in order to allow the policy maker to adjust his response by revising the model according to the new information. In this case, we may have at each time instant an updating process of the economic system and an analogous revision process of the plan. In the control literature this type of control may be called either a passive learning or active learning process. In the first method, we may take into consideration the parameter covariances, but we ignore the covariance between the state variables and the parameters of the system. In the second method we take into account the above covariances, as well as future covariances of the state and control variables. This consideration or the future perturbations allows the establishing of a more realistic control law, in order to achieve better results from the control exercise. The main purpose of this paper is to derive a method of updating the reduced form coefficients of an econometric model and their covariance matrix by mobilizing bayesian filtering techniques. The updating process can be used both with passive learning and active learning stochastic controls. We have implemented this method for a monetary model of the Indian economy and we have attempted to point out the essential differences in the results under the two abovementioned types of treatment of uncertainty, i.e. passive learning and active learning.

摘要:
The purpose of this paper is to explore the merits of system dynamics as a total systems methodology. Specifically, the presentation will undertake to review the need for and the requirements demanded of such problem-solving methodologies, to briefly explore the dilemma resulting from historic attempts to create them and to present changes to the existing system dynamics method which might improve its conformity and acceptability as such a methodology. These include the formal definition of qualitative system dynamics and, to provide much-needed guidance in its application, the presentation of a set of rigorous rules, namely those of stepwise influence diagramming, aimed at enhancing problem exploration and model development, and qualitative analysis, aimed at identifying critical system components and exploring the effects of change.
