SUMMARYIV‐DSA has a place in modern angiography but it is a high contrast dose examination and rather unsuitable for many of the patients currently selected for it. Claims that it is non‐invasive, quick, simple and safe are also open to question. Intra‐arterial DSA, however, appears to possess many of the merits claimed for IV‐DSA. ABSTRACT620 1.V.‐D.S.A. Carotid Studies were per formed on 607 patients. Follow‐up on 430 patients was obtained.1.V.‐D.S.A. has been accepted at our institution as a means of evaluating the carotid bifurcations prior to surgery, most cases requiring no further angiographic evaluation. However, it has not been accepted for the assessment of intracranial conditions, apart from the assessment of the parasellar vessels prior to trans‐sphenoidal surgery and the assessment of dural venous sinus patency.Apart from a relatively high incidence of transient chest pain (5.3%) the incidence of complications was low and there were no major complications.1.V.‐D.S.A. has replaced a small number of conventional carotid angiograms. ABSTRACTThe demands for radiotherapy services continue to increase relentlessly but the capacity to meet these demands is not available. In Australia only 36% of patients with invasive cancer are being treated with megavoltage radiotherapy beams whereas an increase of approximately 50% is necessary to reach a more appropriate level of 55%. A review of the number of radiation oncologists, radiographers and treatment machines shows that the shortage of staff and equipment are consistent with the low utilization of radiotherapy in Australia. Staff and equipment are fully occupied and lack the capacity to appreciably increase treatment rates. A 50% increase in the number Of radiation oncologists is required to reach the recommended number of 7 per million population for service commitments only. This increase is also necessary to adequately treat the additional 50% of patients who would benefit from appropriate modern radiotherapy. Similar increases in therapy radiographer staff numbers and treatment machines will also be required if these additional patients are to be treated. ABSTRACTThe broad spectrum of C.T. findings in a group of 15 patients with primary brain lymphoma are reviewed. An attempt has been made to emphasize the more typical lesion characteristics, including location, definition, multiplicity and attenuation, both prior to and following contrast administration. Clinical presentation, changing C.T. appearances following radiotherapy and ultimate prognosis are briefly described. Differential diagnoses and their significance for management are discussed.

ABSTRACT:The cranial computed tomograms (CT) of 36 asymptomatic children with acute lymphobiastic leukaemia (ALL) were obtained after 3 years continuous complete remission (CCR). In all these children central nervous system (CNS) in volvement had been excluded at initial assessment. All were regularly followed to monitor haematologic as well as CNS remission.Our study revealed that 22 of the 36 cases showed one or more of the following changes on brain CT: subarachnoid space widening, ventricular dilatation and intracerebral hypodense areas.Significantly, intracerebral calcification was absent. In 2 cases, however, the pineal was calcified and regarded as a variant of normal. Changes on brain CT were documented as severe if more than one of the three criteria mentioned existed (6 cases). Serial cranial CT scans were available in 3 children, one of whom showed regression of a hypodense periventricular lesion.Although CNS prophylaxis has dramatically increased survival time in childhood ALL, our findings concur with those of Peylan‐Ramuet al1that treatment‐induced structural changes detectable on CT do occur in a considerable pro portion of asymptomatic disease‐free children in long‐term re
